Poco M3 review: Less than the sum of its parts

An affordable device with great specification all considered, but just how well does the budget Poco M3 handle in the real world? Here's our review.

Very affordable for such a well-rounded specification ; Large screen with Full HD+ resolution ; Quicker Wi-Fi than some low-price rivals ; Massive battery - so lasts for an age

Screen has poor touch response ; Often sluggish around user interface ; Cameras an oversell (macro and depth not needed) ; Xiaomi's MIUI 12 software irks ; Poor vibration/haptics sensation

If all you want is an affordable outright purchase for calls and emails then the Poco M3 will last an age and could serve you well. But the quality of even lesser-specified devices out there - which run better overall - means it's not one to recommend.

POCO M3 smartphone

On offer is a lower midrange smartphone which performs amicably with what's contained under the hood.

Decent battery, dual-SIM plus MicroSD card slot, sound good, fingerprint scanner works well, finger-print free body, decent price

Already a year old so specs showing its age, no 5G, no wide-angle lens, screen brightness could have been better
