Brother MFC-6490CW A3 Multi-Function Printer

A3 and A4 printing make Brother's latest MFP a tempting proposition, though it's a shame it can't tell between the two!

Brother MFC-6490CW review

For £299 (it's cheaper if you shop around) the Brother MFC-6490CW gives you features galore. The integrated scanner takes wide-format media, as do the two input trays, which together take a generous 400 sheets of plain paper.

The Brother MFC-6490CW multifunction printer's wide-format capability is nice, but not its slow performance and variable print quality.

Brother MFC-6490CW review

There are plenty of all-in-one printer/scanners around, but what almost all have in common is their A4 size.

A bigger Brother. Affordable oversize printing and scanning.

Brother A3 Multifunction MFC-6490CW

Say the word ‘A3' and most immediately think too big or too heavy or probably both. Well it will not fit where I review A4 units – no surprise there – but it sits in the doorway to my office quite happily and it just needs an extension on the USB lead,...

Brother MFC-6490CW

Mike Jennings goes large with Brother's remarkable new A3 inkjet all-in-one.

An A3 printer is a useful thing. It allows you to print small poster-sized images, multi-page pamphlets on one sheet and can even be used in pre-production environments to output full-sized double-page proofs. But most people don't own or run them...

Brother - MFC-6490CW

There are plenty of inkjet all-in-one printers available and quite a few are suitable for small and home office use. If you add in the requirement to handle A3 paper, though, there are suddenly very few ...

As a first attempt at an A3 all-in-one office inkjet, the MFC-6490CW makes a lot of the right moves. It has twin paper trays, a good scanner and some useful extras, such as the widescreen LCD display. A couple of annoying shortcomings, particularly the...

Brother MFC-6490CW

Brother breaks the mould by releasing the world's first all-in-one A3 inkjet printer. Could this be the start of a trend?

We suspect this is the first of several A3 all-in-one printers to be released by the major manufacturers over the next year. While it's well-specified and does its job reasonably well, there are some design flaws in the menu system and it would benefit...

Brother MFC-6490CW

Brother is aiming big with its latest multi-function device. The MFC-6490CW combines a colour inkjet printer, scanner, fax and copy functions, and the important ability to handle A3 pages - a not-too-common feature on inkjets at this price

Brother's ISO ratings are for A4 pages, and it expects the A3 functions to appeal to those with only an occasional demand for this page size. The small offices at which it's targeted are unlikely to be too concerned by minor issues with shadows in...

GOOD GEAR GUIDE - BEST BUYS

Expert review by : James Hutchinson (goodgearguide.com.au)

Brother MFC-6490CW

If A4 paper just isn't big enough, then Brother's MFC-6490CW might just be your next multifunction printer. It isn't the best or fastest A3 printer av...

A3 printing and scanning, quick and detailed scans, fast first-page-out times, comprehensive connectivity, low running cost

Slow printing, photo quality isn't great, no automatic duplex or CD/DVD printing

There are better standalone A3 printers available, but Brother's A3 inkjet multifunction has its merits. A low running cost caps off a decent printer.
