HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One

Does this multifunction inkjet printer master all of Jack's trades?

HP Photosmart C5280 review

Capable for documents and photos, but are the Photosmart features smart enough?

Photo enhancement options ; Good picture quality

Ink cartridges not supplied ; Awkward direct printing

Direct printing could be better

HP Photosmart C5280 review

HP's stylish C5280 has a 2.4 inch colour display that gives you access not only to direct printing from memory cards, but also to a full range of maintenance and cleaning options.

Good ingredients fail to make it tasty. Not as good in practice as it ought to be.

HP Photosmart C5280 multifunction photo printer

The HP Photosmart C5280 shows how good design can tame an inherently complicated machine. This inkjet multifunction printer has a few limitations and a mountain of benefits - for a tidy £99 inc VAT.

The HP Photosmart C5280's mediocre speed and sparse connectivity options restrict it to a small or home office. Those users, however, will enjoy a highly capable, easy-to-use device with excellent photo output.

Text looks feathery on plain paper, on-screen manual thorough but disjointed

This all-in-one offers many features (such as CD/DVD printing) and great photo quality, but its speeds are below average.

HP Photosmart C5280 All-In-One Printer

The HP Photosmart C5280 All-In-One (AIO) can print on optical discs and scan directly to a memory card, but its text quality leaves something to be desired.

Relatively fast. Scans, copies, e-mails through PC. Scans to memory card. Prints on printable optical discs.

No built-in fax. No automatic document feeder. Text quality is way below par.

HP Photosmart C5280 Multifunction Printer review: HP Photosmart C5280 Multifunction Printer

HP Photosmart C5280 Multifunction Printer

Inexpensive; great graphics and photo print quality; excellent color scan quality; can print on specially coated optical discs; dedicated photo paper tray; low print costs; Roxio Express Labeler software is easy to use; print quality on discs is good.

Text quality needs significant improvement; photo menus need to be reorganized to be more intuitive; can't produce scannable proof sheet; can't sort memory card contents by date; lacks a PictBridge port.

Its features set is oddly unbalanced, and better all-in-one inkjet options cost just a bit more, but the HP Photosmart C5280 is a good bet for casual home users on a tight budget.

HP Photosmart C5280 AIO Printer

There's no way to know what the folks at HP were thinking when they designed the HP Photosmart C5280 All-In-One (AIO) Printer ($149.99 direct), but I'll lay long odds that they weren't focusing on text. The C5280 offers fast performance; typical...

Clearly designed for home use, the HP Photosmart C5280 All-In-One does a good job with graphics and photo quality (but not text) and prints on optical discs.
