Sony STR-DH820 amplifier

 

Sony STR-DH820 review: an A/V receiver with plenty of power, iPod support and comprehensive codec support

Simple auto calibration ; Plenty of power

Front-mounted ports can't be hidden

The STR-DH820 adds some useful features from the entry-level STR-DH520. As A/V receivers go, it does a pretty good job and doesn't have any significant failings that would annoy the majority of users.

Sony STR-DH820

 

Good value and offers a whole host of modern features including iPhone plug-in at the front of the unit providing easy attachment

Doesn't offer on-screen display for iPhone so makes it very difficult to manage playlists, etc. Tone settings are far too fiddly and don't always offer the sound that you're looking for....so you need to add a graphic equaliser to get best sound really!

Great connectivity and value for money. Integrates well with Samsung TV and sounds brilliant with Tannoy HTS101 speaker package.

Remote is a bit bulky, set-up can be a bit confusing. Need to spend some time tweaking!
