Epson Perfection V700 Photo review

Gives dedicated film scanners a serious run for their money

Excellent resolution ; Accurate colour capture ; Decent software package ; Well built ; Option to use a normal flatbed

An excellent step up from the budget scanners, with a range of film and slide adaptors

Epson Perfection V700 Photo

Do you have stacks of old prints and slides, and want high-quality scans? Perhaps you can't afford a dedicated high-end film scanner? Then consider this Epson model. It's a high-quality flatbed with print and slide adaptor frames for volume scanning

Excellent resolution, Accurate colour capture, Decent software package, Well built, Option to use a normal flatbed

An excellent step up from the budget scanners, with a range of film and slide adaptors

Epson Perfection V700 Photo

The V700 will be well beyond the budget of the average user, but it represents good value for money at this higher end of the market. Epson has firmly aimed the V700 at photo enthusiasts and advanced amateur photographers.

High-resolution fast scanning ; ability to batch scan up to 24 frames of film ; colour accuracy is excellent

Only appeals to niche users

The Perfection V700 Photo is everything the aspiring professional photographer or serious enthusiast could want. Scanning speeds are fast and quality is superb. It allows you to scan in multiple transparencies and , thanks to the Dual Lens technology,...

Perfection V700 Photo

It's been a while since a scanner aimed specifically at professional creatives was released, so it's a surprise that both Epson and HP are launching new models. Epson is first out of the gates with the Perfection V700 Photo.

Produces excellent quality, high-resolutiuon scans.

Not as good as dedicated scanner for film.

Pro photographers will want to wait for the £465 plus VAT Perfection V750 Pro, which adds a high-pass optics system, the full Ai version of SilverFast, and calibration software. However, the V700 is perfect for most designers

Epson Perfection V700 Photo review

The Epson Perfection V700 Photo is a professional-standard scanner aimed at prosumers and keen amateur photographers.

Multiple film format scanning, build, price, bundled software

Fiddly film height adjusters. 120 film holder too short for three frames of 6x7

The V700 scan quality not only equals many dedicated film scanners, but in most cases surpasses them.

Though it's probably the best home and office flatbed scanner available, most people don't need a scanner this good

Excellent performance for both film and photos, easy to use software

Software not so good for monochrome film, the high performance comes at a price

Epson Perfection V700 Photo

High-quality scans for photographic prints and film. Modes range from full auto to full control over settings.

Minimal optical character recognition (OCR) and document-management capability.

Aiming to attract serious amateur photographers, the Epson Perfection V700 has comprehensive options for handling film and produces top-quality scans.

Epson Perfection V700 photo scanner review

main content "I'm sitting on 1,000 slides. What's the best way to get them into the computer?" is a frequently asked question I get from both friends and readers. Of course, the easiest solution is to send them off to someone else. But that can get...

Speedy; full-featured hardware and software; FireWire and USB 2.0 connections.

No automatic document feeder option; large; a bit loud; driver has some annoying interface quirks; frequently pauses in midscan to warm up.

The Epson Perfection V700 Photo makes an excellent choice for a deep-pocketed photo hobbyist or a pro who needs to scan originals in a mixture of sizes.

Epson Scanner Does Gallery-Size Enlargements

Flatbed model scans film at high resolutions.

This flatbed scanner is worth its premium price only if you need high-resolution film scans.
