Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 review

Scanning books will undoubtedly be a prime function for this model, and Fujitsu have added a few nice little features with this in mind. Once the book has been scanned, the software can produce a 'flat' version of the image that eliminates the spine....

The SV600 isn't perhaps a mainstream product - it's too pricey for that. However, the sheer range of materials it can scan, and the quality with which it can scan them, makes it an outstanding product in its field. If you work in an environment where...

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 review

A portable scanner which looks like a desktop lamp.

Accepts single sheet, stapled or bound - up to A3 size; Simple to use; Software de-skews, crops and rotates automatically

Slower than a sheet-fed scanner; Changing settings can be a fiddle; Sensitive to light

A unique and versatile scanner, the SV600 is good, but you'll have to make sure that you use it in low-light conditions to avoid washed out images.

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600

The Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 is best understood as a document scanner, but it's also suitable for 3D objects, and it offers some features designed specifically for book scanning.

Uses an overhead scanner, rather than the camera typically found in other similar models. Suitable for scanning documents, books, business cards, photos, 3D objects, and more.

When automatic cropping for book pages doesn't work well, adjusting the crop lines can get tedious.

For more constrained budgets, the Plustek A300 is a strong contender. It takes longer to set up each page for scanning than with the Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600, but it needs fewer corrections after the scan. On the other hand, the SV600 is even less...

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 review: Touch-free scanner won't damage source material

It only looks like a table lamp. The Fujitsu SV600 scans material quickly and efficiently, but page curvature is a problem.

Can scan virtually anything ; Very small footprint ; Fast

Not great at correcting for page distortion or curvature ; Not suited to scanning transparencies ; Expensive

It looks like a table lamp, but the ScanSnap SV600 scans material quickly and efficiently, and it takes up minimal space when not in use. It's also a hoot to watch, but page curvature is a problem.

Excellent scanner for books

The aren't very many scanners in the market for handling books. This scanner was the only affordable one I found for personal use, and for my needs, it has been perfect. I hope in the future there will be more options available for scanning books.

The Fujitsu scansnap handles books extremely well. I have been digitizing my collection of nearly 100 sheet music books, and for that purpose, it has been perfect. The pages come out very clear and accurate, and once a workflow is in place, the...

Fairly expensive scanner. Pages with curves with result in sub-par scans. Material that is black and white works very well, but if the pages have artwork or a dark background, the page detection will be inaccurate, and manual adjustments will have to...
