Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: minimalistic fitness-smartwatch teeming with features

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: Samsung's latest fitness-focused smartwatch is our top pick for Android users

Simple yet stylish design ; Bright, clean display ; Vibrant and engaging UI ; Lots of customisation on offer ; Better-than-expected battery life

Lack of third-party app support ; UI could be more intuitive ; Incremental upgrade over predecessor

As one of the market’s best alternatives to an Apple Watch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 is an excellent choice for Android users, or anyone looking for a feature-rich, fitness-focused smartwatch bursting with great health features.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: Buy now or wait for the pending features?

The second-gen Samsung watch adds some features, but many are pending software updates, so is it worth buying now or waiting?

Familiar sporty look with two size options ; Comfortable to wear day and night ; Touch bezel works well ; Easy-to-use software ; Decent fitness-tracking features

Software a bit clunky for sports tracking ; ECG and Fall Detection not available yet ; Battery life only slightly improved ; Underwhelming app support remains ; LTE model bumps up the price

If you’re looking for a round smartwatch that does fitness and core smartwatch features well in equal measures, the second-gen Active is one smartwatch worth checking out.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: A sleek smartwatch that's better value than the Galaxy Watch 3

A more premium smartwatch than Samsung's previous models. With two sizes, LTE and now ECG.

The Good ; Comfortable during workouts and when sleeping. Same VO2 max and trip detection as the Watch 3. Updated running coach works if you can live with the Bixby voice. Touch bezel to navigate between menus. Comes in two sizes, with an LTE option.

The Bad ; Battery life on the smaller 40mm version takes a beating during workouts, especially with the always-on display active. ECG is only available when tied to a Galaxy phone.

The Bottom Line A year after release, there's a lot to like about the Galaxy Watch Active 2 especially now that ECG is finally available.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: A great watch, but not a huge advance on the original

The trouble with releasing a follow-up device so soon after the first is there may not be too much to shout about

Looks great ; Digital bezel works well ; Fantastic screen

Battery life could be better ; Samsung Health isn’t great ; Some menu items are hard to find

The problem is that the original Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is almost exactly the same product, and can now be had for significantly less. With the digital rotating bezel added to the original via a software update, and without the new echocardiogram...

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2

The 'active' branding is relevant but not defining to the Galaxy Watch Active 2. This is an excellent smartwatch on every level, not just for fitness tracking.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 vs. Apple Watch 5: The best smartwatch largely depends on your phone

Both the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch make great fitness trackers, and they're packed with smart features.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: A bite out of Apple

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 rounds out Samsung's watch lineup well, offering Android users the essential functionalities and price of an Apple Watch Sport. Adding ECG, LTE, and some new third-party app integrations, its biggest competitors are its own...

Comprehensive and expansive exercise tracking ; Stainless-steel version looks watch-like ; Easy-to-read display in all lighting ; Two-day battery with light usage ; You can scroll Twitter on a watch

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: ‘good’ is as good as it gets

The best* smartwatch for Android users.

Touch-sensitive bezel ; Offline Spotify ; Decent battery life

Requires too many Samsung phone apps to work ; Bixby ; No good mapping solutions

Samsung’s latest smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, is similar to the Galaxy Watch Active that came out earlier this year. But it has the crucial circular control bezel that the prior model lacked, and it’s perhaps the best smartwatch you can get...

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2

The Samsung Galaxy Active2 smartwatch adds LTE connectivity along with a few useful new features, but it's not a compelling upgrade over the original model.

Digital rotating bezel makes navigation easier. Available in two sizes. LTE connectivity.

Inconsistent battery life and fitness accuracy in testing. Limited iOS compatibility. Thick bezel.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 is a solid smartwatch, but unless you want LTE connectivity, there's very little reason to buy it instead of saving some money on the original model. And if fitness features and accuracy are more important to you than...

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: Mission accomplished

The Galaxy Watch Active is imminently capable, supremely polished and mature in a way that most other smartwatches aren't.

Great design ; Digital bezel ; Decent battery life

Few third-party apps ; NFC connectivity could be more open
