Intel X25-V 40GB SSD review

Can Intel's second generation SSD steal the performance crown?

Proven controller technology ; Excellent 4k random performance

Mediocre real-world performance ; Limited capacity

It doesn't do well in most benchmarks, but this is a reliable long-term performer

Intel X25-V review

The Intel X25-V is one solid state drive (SSD) that can actually call itself affordable. The capacity and performance offered may be lower than the best SSD, but it does have an appeal at the budget end. Compared to ordinary hard disk drives, this SSD...

The performance numbers seen above are good for a solid state drive positioned in the budget space. At a price of £89 the price-per-GB ratio may not be the lowest among SSDs, but the Intel X25-V does happen to be one of the lowest priced SSD drives...

Intel X25-V SSD 40GB review

Intel's bargain priced SSD is a false economy. Spend a little more and get a lot more elsewhere.

Even if you could live with the high cost and poor write speeds, the X25-V's measly 40GB capacity means it's not a lot of use, aside from a basic boot disk. Although it is possible to squeeze Windows 7 and a handful of programs onto it, Windows and...

Intel X25-V SSD 40Gb – Raid 0 performance review

Almost everyone reading this review is already aware of the benefits that a Solid State Drive (SSD) drive can bring to the table. Not only are boot times dramatically lowered, but overall operating system performance is massively improved. Being...

Intel X25-V 40GB SSD

Being priced low, this solid state drive had to compromise on something, yet the performance and capacity are still acceptable.

Relatively economical pricing ; Faster than HDDs

Drive capacity is just about enough for a boot drive

The term "affordable SSD" would describe the X25-V 40GB drive well. Making high performance available around the Rs. 5k mark, this could well be the tipping point that gets everyone participating in the Solid State Drive revolution.

Intel X25-V 40GB Value Performance SATA Solid-State Drive Review

While SSDs are still a fairly new technology, it has certainly come a long way in the last couple of years. The choices in SSDs are increasing and the prices are also decreasing making it possible to…

Intel SSD Toolkit and Optimizer ; Very fast read performance ; Impressive 4KB data block and boot performance ; Competitive retail pricing

Lower larger data block write speeds ; How about a bigger 60GB for the same price

If we learn anything from these benchmarks, it’s that buying an SSD with proper management software to maintain those “new SSD” performance levels is really a huge plus. Many SSDs rely on their own included self cleaning software to manage themselves,...

Intel's X25-V solid-state drive on its own and in RAID

The rise of solid-state drives has been one of the most exciting developments in PC hardware over the last few years. With essentially instantaneous seek times, SSDs can access data an order of magnitude quicker than even the most exotic high-RPM hard...

With a street price hovering around $115, the X25-V is easily one of the most affordable solid-state drives on the market. Whether the drive lives up to its value billing depends entirely on what you, well, value.

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Reliable

It started out in my Lenovo S10-3 and I eventually moved it to my Lenovo X120e. I purchased this SSD to protect myself from mechanical failures,. Most of my past HDDs in laptops have ended dying and clicking.

Intel's SSD has been reliable and worked great with both Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.04 and Kubuntu 11.04 (not that there's a difference). There was a noticeable improvement in boot time after first switching. Boot times remain snappy

I didn't really notice a difference after I actually got into the OS. Loading up applications seemed to take about the same time in comparison to my desktop without an SSD ; Available space is rather small, but that's typical for SSDs ; df -h ;...
