Denon Cocoon review

An AirPlay speaker dock from a great brand; what's not to like? Well…

Lovely design and features ; Very good sound

though not jaw-dropping ; Daft placement of buttons

The sound is very good, though we did feel the need to press the Loundness button on the back to make it richer at moderate volumes.

Denon Cocoon Home review

The Denon Cocoon can be networked either through an ethernet port at the back or over 11n Wi-Fi. With a docked iPhone, it can even learn your wireless network password, saving you the pain of trying to input a long password with an alphanumeric remote...

Denon Cocoon Portable

The Denon Cocoon Portable speaker dock streams wireless audio or plays from docked iOS devices, and it has built-in Internet radio, but at top volumes it distorts on deep bass tracks.

Streams wireless audio via AirPlay, Wi-Fi. Built-in docking tray. Audio quality is solid at moderate volumes. Rechargeable and portable. Streams Internet radio. Free controller app makes set-up a breeze.

Distorts at top volumes on tracks with deep bass. Priced high given distortion issues. Not for bass lovers.

Denon Cocoon Home

We've long used Denon AV receivers for our home-theatre setups, and have been impressed in the past with the company's bookshelf speaker systems, so we were keen to get our hands on the Cocoon, Denon's first foray into the world of speaker docks.

Very good audio; nice design; well built

Expensive; no Lightning dock; bass lacking a bit of punch

Besides the failed firmware update, the only problem we had with the Cocoon was the price. At $699 you’re getting into the neighbourhood of the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air and the NAD VISO 1 – which are both awesome wireless speaker docks.
