LG SL9YG Sound Bar with Dolby Atmos review

The LG SL9YG is the latest addition to the company’s soundbar line-up, and while it retains a number of features from last year - like the Meridian Audio technology and Dolby Atmos decoding found on LG’s 2018 soundbars - it also adds plenty...

Impressive front soundstage Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Google Assistant built-in Well integrated subwoofer

Front-heavy acoustics Limited connections No eARC/HDR10+ support

The LG SL9YG ups the immersion factor with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and morphs into a smart speaker thanks to built-in Google Assistant. A big and bold sound is enhanced by a slim-line design that keeps things sleek, increasing the lifestyle...

LG SL9YG review: The soundbar gets smart

This soundbar and subwoofer combo is a fair price, but there aren't as many channels as the competition can offer - is it still worth buying?

Big wall of sound ; Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding ; Well integrated subwoofer ; Slimline wall mount ; Solid build quality

Front-heavy acoustics ; No HDR10+ passthrough ; No eARC support ; Wall-mount position compromised

Clear, powerful bass ; Impressive immersion for a single bar ; Google Assistant built in ; Sexy brushed-metal look ; Multiple audio codecs and audio file support

You can't get convincing surround sound with a single speaker, right? Wrong

The LG SL9YG combines impressive Atmos sound, svelte looks and a compelling mix of voice control and multiroom features.

The LG SL9YG combines impressive Atmos sound, svelte looks and a compelling mix of voice control and multiroom features.

The LG SL9YG offers classy looks and demonstrably better sonics than cheaper Atmos models. It has Google Assistant onboard and the ability to stream music over Chromecast.

The system costs more than the better-sounding Samsung HW-Q70. The buttons on top of the bar are really hard to read.

The LG SL9YG combines great Atmos sound, svelte looks and a compelling mix of voice control and multiroom features.
