Samsung BD-C5500
Excellent Blu-ray image quality; Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, and Pandora media streaming, plus the expandable Samsung Apps platform; DLNA-compliant.
Sluggish operational speed; no built-in Wi-Fi; compatible Wi-Fi dongle is too expensive; last year's Samsung Blu-ray players had questionable reliability.
The BD-C5500's expandable Samsung Apps platform and DLNA compatibility make it stand out from other entry-level players, although it's one of the slower players we've tested.

This entry-level Blu-ray player offers core Blu-ray features like BD-Live and BonusView support, as well as DLNA streaming, WiFi-readiness, and the excellent Samsung Apps Web platform. For $179.99, it's a great package. ...
The BD-C5500 supports 1080p/24 playback of Blu-ray discs ; The player has internal decoding and bitstream output of high-resolution audio sources ; It supports BD-Live Web content and can play picture-in-picture bonus content ; The BD-C5500 supports...
The BD-C5500 lacks multichannel analog audio outputs, so it's not the best choice for someone who owns an older, non-HDMI A/V receiver ; The player lacks built-in WiFi and an advanced control port like RS-232 ; The BD-C5500 is not 3D-capable
The BD-C5500 is a features-laden player offered at a great price. You get all the functions of a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player, plus great media-streaming options and the ability to customize the experience through the Samsung Apps store. Moving up the...

Excellent video quality and rapid access of disks

Set up was straighforward. Once connected to internet additional services were easy to access.

BBC iPlayer picture and speed of response fantastic. Internet features good. Loads disks quickly. Great looking and very slim. Remote matches my TV and cinema sound and they all control each other.
iPlayer fast forward and rewind don't work, picture and response is so good I can forgive it, I am sure future update will fix. In some respects the Samsung remotes are too similar, which one to pick up in a hurry...
