DJI Osmo Action 3

Hot on the heels of the superb GoPro Hero 11 Black comes the latest challenger from DJI – the Osmo Action 3.

Better mounting system than GoPro ; Impressive 16m waterproof depth ; Excellent battery life

Still overheats despite improvements ; Can’t match top-end GoPros for image quality

Had the Osmo Action 3 been released a few months ago, prior to the excellent GoPro Hero 11 Black , it would be the best action cameras on the market.

Featuring a compact, water-tight body and a wide FOV, the OSMO Action 3 is the ideal cam for watersports enthusiasts

Excellent value for money ; Light and compact body with two LCDs ; Can shoot photos in RAW ; Excellent battery life ; Magnetic mounting is very convenient

Comparatively small sensor (poor low-light performance) ; Lower maximum video resolution than GoPro HERO 11 Black ; No global positioning (a.k.a. GNSS)

Although the DJI OSMO Action 3 cuts a few corners, only a few users will notice these shortcomings. The compact yet rugged body and the wider-than-usual field of view offer opportunities for people to create unique footage both under and over the water...

On paper, the Osmo Action 3 seems like it could prove to be a real rival to GoPro's market dominance, so we set out to see how it shapes up.

Super-wide field of view ; Awesome magnetic mounting system ; Slightly smaller and lighter than a GoPro ; Best-in-class waterproofing ; Front touchscreen

The rubber lens protector feels like an afterthought ; Vertical shooting requires a bracket ; The Action 2 modular system is likely abandoned

The Osmo Action 3 marks DJI's return to the GoPro-style form factor, and with it comes massive improvements in usability and versatility.

Wider FOV than the competition ; Dives deeper than GoPro cameras ; Excellent mounting system and battery life ; Front touchscreen is very handy

Video quality can’t beat GoPro ; Fewer photo modes than the competition ; Low-light performance struggles ; Horizon locking capped to 2.7K

A great value action camera and a tonic to year-on-year price hikes – the Action 3 isn’t perfect, but for the price, it’s a great option.

The DJI Osmo Action 3 is both similar and totally unlike the Action 2 that came before it. And, for the most part, that makes it a killer action camera.

Excellent image quality and video stabilization Very rugged and waterproof design Unique magnetic clip system is highly versatile Affordable price

Not as compact and lightweight as the Action 2 Magnetic locking system prone to clogging in sandy conditions
