The GoPro Max may be the action camera makers second 360 effort, but don't think of it as a sequel to the Fusion – it may be much more than that.
Easy to use;Simple editing;Good environmental audio capture;Multiple fields of view
Non-360-degree video quality not near Hero 8 Black level;Cheaper alternatives are now plentiful

The Max supersedes the two-year-old GoPro Fusion and improves upon its predecessor in every way
Mind-blowing 360 video ; 360-degree photos ; Sturdy construction ; It’s easy to get great results ; Fantastic app support ; Flippable screen view
Image stitching can look glitchy ; High price tag

Higher spherical video resolution and a simpler editing process is a major step forward from the Fusion, but is the GoPro Max polished enough to be your go-to action camera?
5.6K 360 video 360 video reframing On-camera stitching Digital stabilization Fits on existing mounts
Limited shooting modes No 360 slow-mo Low-res 2D footage Poor in low light/ underwater
GoPro’s new Max 360-degree action camera is hell-bent on bringing spherical video to the masses. A new suite of on-camera processing removes the major pain-points from 360-video production, and integrates editing and reframing tools into the GoPro...

GoPro Max review: Everything an action camera should be
Really simple to shoot with ; Editing from the mobile app is easy ; Durable build ; Fits most existing mounts and handles
It's not cheap ; Video captured in Hero mode isn't as good as an actual Hero ; Sometimes struggles with exposure and shadows
One of the most versatile cameras to date, thanks to its dual-cameras setup and 360-degree footage possibilities It's easy to use and easy to edit footage afterwards. But if you want 'normal' video then the Hero 8 is your better bet.

Shoot first, frame later
Easy to edit 360-degree video ; Easy to edit 360-degree video ; Decent audio capture
16:9 video caps out at 2.6K ; Seam lines noticeable ; No 360-degree editor for Windows
If you need the shiniest, sharpest footage around, get the GoPro Hero8 Black – but if you want ultimate editing flexibility, nothing tops the Max

Nothing combines action cam and 360 video as well as the Max. There's a clear direction for improvement but it gets so much right and makes working with 360-degree video an absolute dream

Costing S$740, the GoPro Max 360 camera is attractively priced but its software needs to be improved to be easier to use.

360 still has some growing up to do, but the GoPro Max is a solid step forward for the format. While stitching and image quality don't take a giant leap forward, the Max offers a solid user experience and excellent mobile app.
Excellent mobile app ; Great image stabilization ; Good audio quality ; Rugged and waterproof ; Keyframe-based reframing controls

GoPro wanted to make a 360-degree camera that regular people might want, and in that regard, it's succeeded. The lower price point, the added flexibility of Hero mode, and improved stabilization definitely mean Max is a capable camera whatever action...
Superior stability ; Fun tools like 360 TimeWarp and PowerPano ; Improved app and UI ; Touchscreen for much easier setup
Fewer video modes ; Some low-light video “twitches” ; Stitching is good but not always perfect

The 360-degree GoPro Max camera promises an easier, more streamlined workflow than last year's Fusion, but has more niche appeal than the less expensive Hero8 Black.
