GoPro's flagship action cam returns with boosted image stabilisation, live-streaming and better audio. But is the Hero 7 Black still heroic by nature?
Superb image stabilisation ; Improved audio quality ; Impressive video and decent stills ; Waterproof without needing a case ; Huge range of mounts and accessories ; Now offers livestreaming
Can get very hot when recording 4K ; Occasionally sluggish or unresponsive UI ; Still relatively expensive
It's only a relatively small step forward from its predecessor, but the Hero 7 Black's excellent video quality, stabilisation, usability and range of mounts make it the best all-round action cam you can buy.

The GoPro HERO 7 Black has been improved upon in almost every way in newer models, but that doesn't mean it's not still an absolutely excellent action camera

A great action camera is now even better
Great 4K video and image quality ; HyperSmooth is very effective ; TimeWarp is great fun ; Useful UI improvements
Can struggle with voice commands ; Screen unresponsive at times ; Slow-mo footage only output through app or software ; Many cheaper options
Using the GoPro Hero 7 Black reminds you just why the company has dominated this market. While expensive and not without fault, it's great to see the company paying attention to key areas like video stabilisation. Great videos, great images and, most...

GoPro's new flagship action camera, the Hero 7 Black has some awesome features, including hyper smooth stabilisation.
Great stabilisation features ; Improved photography ; TimeWarp time-lapse effect is unreal ; Fits all the same mounts as before
Niche product won't have wide appeal ; Some HDR photos come out quite dark
GoPro's latest camera is undoubtedly its best yet. The advanced stabilisation works well in most conditions, improving massively on the Hero 6. It might not be enough for Hero 6 owners to upgrade, but anyone with any previous camera should consider it.

The GoPro Hero 7 Black is here, complete with live streaming and 'gimbal-like' HyperSmooth stabilisation. Find out more in our full review.

Very stable genius
Excellent image stabilisation ; Good all-round image quality ; Compact, waterproof and tough
Battery drains quickly with 4K ; HEVC needs relatively new hardware
GoPro’s smoothest operator ever, and a brilliant flagship

I'm always skeptical of hype, but the hype around the Hero 7 Black's Hypersmooth is real.
HyperSmooth produces astonishingly smooth footage;TimeWarp makes it easy to shoot Hyperlapse;Redesigned UI is easy to use;Rugged and hardy camera
Low battery life;Noisy videos and photos in low light

GoPro Hero 7 Black Review: The Best Action Camera Today

Crazy smooth video stabilization • Easier-to-use touchscreen UI • Vertical video capture • Super simple sharing to Instagram Stories
No real battery improvement • Low-light footage is a little soft
The GoPro Hero 7 Black's built-in stabilization is so good it eliminates the need for expensive and clunky gimbals.

The Hero 7 might not come with a host of new shooting modes or imaging improvements, but it does come with a few key tweaks that make it exciting to new and old users alike. The upgrade in stability alone will save hours of potential memories from the...
Much improved stabilization ; SuperPhoto adds better stills ; Live streaming adds a new way to “share” ; Improved UI
Minor hardware improvements for upgraders ; No improvement on battery life
