SJCAM SJ7 Star review

Yet another 4K action camera to rattle GoPro

Slick 4K footage at 30fps ; Neat and stylish design ; Rear touchscreen ; Good-quality still imagery

No image stabilization at 4K ; Barrel distortion blights stills ; App functionality is basic ; Image quality isn't as good as rivals

The SJCAM SJ7 delivers some good-looking footage, especially when shooting in 4K. However, this budget GoPro Hero5 rival doesn't boast the sort of professional features offered by the biggest name in the action camera game.

SJCAM SJ7 Star review

A review of the SJ7 Star, SJCAM's first 'proper' 4K action cam which looks great and shoots good quality video.

The SJ7 Star is a good-value action cam if you want something that will capture good quality video, either at 4K or at lower resolutions at high frame rates.

The Sjcam SJ7 Star action cam delivers high-quality 4K capture for an affordable price, but omits digital stabilization at its top resolution.

Aluminum frame gets hot when recording. Dated mini USB interface. 4K footage isn't stabilized. Battery life could be longer.

The Sjcam SJ7 Star is a solid choice for videographers who don't want to spend $400 on a top-end GoPro, but also don't want to give up absolute video quality. At twice the price, the Hero5 Black has some advantages, including a design that's waterproof...
