Join the high-def bandwagon with a fully Mac-compatible HDD camcorder

Great resolution for video and stills ; Face detection ; Foldout touchscreen

Poor mic positioning ; Slow data transfer ; Unclear menu system

Rich in features, but not the easiest camera to operate, and the speed of data transfer to our Mac was no better than on a MiniDV camcorder

An excellent handycam

Suburb high-definition video quality, good low-light performance, 10.1Mp stills mode, tonnes of advanced modes and features

A little on the chunky side

The HDR-SR11 is a slightly cheaper alternative to Sony's top-of-the-range HDR-SR12E. With the exception of a smaller hard drive, it offers identical performance to its award-winning sibling.

Sony's HDR-SR11 camcorder features a 60GB hard drive and delivers dazzling 1080i HD video, along with some cool extra features. But if you don't already own compatible video-editing software, you'll have to add that to its price.
