Acer Aspire X1700-U3700A review

The Acer Aspire X1700-U3700A is the third system in Best Buy's recent lineup of budget PCs. We gave the other two releases ( Dell Inspiron I530S-119B and eMachines ET1161-07 ) average marks for a lack of features and poor performance scores...

Space-saving design; includes unique extras such as HDMI video, digital audio output, and eSATA port.

Competition offers faster performance; a cramped interior limits expansion.

The Acer X1700-U3700A is slightly slower than the competition, but it gives you almost every component you need in either a basic desktop or a light-duty home theater PC. If you prefer functionality to performance, we recommend this model out of the...

Acer Aspire X1700-U3700A

The Acer Aspire X1700-U3700A ($480 list) is a small-form-factor desktop, shoehorning a full-powered PC into a smaller chassis. It's got enough oomph to run some serious programs, yet is priced under $500. It could be the replacement for that primary PC...

Compact form factor. Some DX10 3D capabilities. More powerful than nettops and budget PCs. HDMI port

Single-digit 3D scores. No Blu-ray. Limited expansion. Crapware. No Wi-Fi

The Acer Aspire X1700-U3700A is a decent PC for the den, home theater, or home office. It's got enough power to be your primary PC and is capable of moderate multimedia tasks.

Acer Aspire m5630

Nice design. Combo Blu-ray/HD DVD drive.

Anachronistic components. No DVI > HDMI adaptor bundled.

The M5630 seems unable to decide if it's an entry level or a multimedia PC -- but might be a good first foray for entry level users who want to do both.

Avoid ACER products.

Their products and customer support are poor. I called ACER and they know about these problems. They said it would cost me $200 to fix it!

The computer was nice for a little while.

First, I had to send the computer in to have the sound card replaced. Then, the computer lasted about 3 years then the faulty power supply and motherboard made the video card and the hard drive fail.

Not a reliable PC.

This computer was trouble from the beginning. Acer was supposed to upgrade my PC from Vista to W-7 but they told me I asked for the upgrade too late and they would not do it. I registered my PC with them and they could have let me know that it was...

Low Cost, small PC

Not reliable, runs hot, video card is low quality.

Good machine when it works.

My computer worked great for the first year. A week after the warranty expired my hard drive failed. I went to Acer.com and discovered that this model was built with defective hard drives. Acer offered to replace the hard drive if it failed within a...

Good features for the price.

Hard drive and power supply issues.
