Though the $300 (as of September 27, 2010) eMachines ER1402-05 can't compare in features or performance to pricier desktops, it avoids critical design lapses that might have made it a bad investment at any price.
Great performance for its price ; Attractive chassis ; Wireless-N connectivity
Paltry storage capacity ; The few connections lack diversity
This inexpensive compact PC performs well for the price.

eMachines ER1402-05
Wireless networking uncommon in Nettops at this price; wireless mouse and keyboard included; monitor mountable with a separate bracket; relatively conservative design suitable for living-room use.
Can't handle HD video well; no optical drive; game consoles offer better bang for the buck.
eMachines ER1402-05 is a strong living-room Nettop among others like it, but it doesn't compete well in the larger picture of living-room entertainment devices like game consoles, media streamers, and video service-equipped Blu-ray players. It's worth...

The Mini-e ER1402-05 came bundled with bloatware, including stuff like eBay, eMachines games (by Wild Tangent), Microsoft Office 60-day trial, NetFlix, Norton Internet Security 60 day trial, a trial for Norton Online backup (30-days), Microsoft Works...
Compact. Quiet. HDMI port. Quicker than dual-core Atom processors in certain tests. Inexpensive
Needs download from Internet for Flash 10.1. Bloatware. No remote included
For the same price as a smartphone or multimedia tablet, the eMachines Mini-e ER1402-05 gives you a real PC computing experience. When it's hooked up to an HDTV or large screen monitor, the ER1402-05 is great for watching videos from the Internet.

We've seen our share of miniature PCs over the years. They generally get smaller, more power-efficient, and quieter—but they never seem to get faster.
Very power-efficient; quiet; affordable
Not enough power to deal with today's Internet video; even browsing was laggy
So unless you’re faced with serious space constraints, you’d be better served by Dell’s similarly inexpensive, but less hobbled Zino HD.

Price seems to be slowly rising on these.....
Great little machines!! We bought over 50 of these and are using them to run our digital sign network. For the guy that said the base does not come off... two small screws on the bottom. We removed all the bases from our units, applied industrial...
Wish they had a dual core processor and a faster Hard Drive, but work great so far as-is

Blow up your cable and your satellite dish and watch streaming TV. Even local channels decoded by my TV look better than from the DVR. Basic cable or an antenna is all you need. I'm not missing all the second run movies on HBO. How many times can they...
I bought this to replace my Comcast DVR and I love it. Why pay that gargantuan cable bill for an inferior quality picture. Standard def Hulu looks nearly as good as HD from the component outputs on the DVR. My wife panicked when I unplugged but this...
It seized up and I thought there was a problem so I turned it off. It said, "installing 1 of 54 updates." I haven't bought a new computer in 3 years and I guess it takes a couple of hours of downloads to update any computer

The computer was purchased to replace an elderly dell optiplex computer. I like its small footprint and power sipping abilities. I bought a usb speaker to go with this and it works very well
No cons as of yet

I really want to see more of these units in this price range ($200-$300). These are excellent to recommend to people who don't need Quad-core systems, just something for their desk that doesn't eat lots of space or sound like a jet engine taking off.
It works well for what it is (don't expect to play high end games on it, duh) ; The layout is very nice, it works as a lightweight desktop for my family, and a media streamer on my TV (not the server though, 160GB just isn't enough for that) ; We're...
None really, just keep in mind ; Proc. is lightweight, so may not be suited for larger apps or games, even though the rest of the system is build very well ; No CD/DVD/BlueRay drive, but it didn't list it on the page, and its pretty obvious from the pics
Consumer review (newegg.com)
This is the PERFECT machine if your intent is to surf the web and check email only. This is surely NOT the machine to use for gaming or applications that require disc installation.
Quick and easy set up ; Practically no noise from it ; As usual, very quick delivery from Newegg
No CD drive (but I knew this ahead of time) ; Odd placement of UDB ports ; Cheap USB keyboard and mouse
