10-megapixels in a compact camera? From Casio? The big number captures the headlines but does it cut the mustard?

Just when you thought the megapixel race was over...
Excellent all-round performance
Focus is poor on occasions
The Z1000's 10MP chip is only a small part of this camera's appeal. Casio has created an attractive, well-specifi ed and speedy camera that surpasses its lifestyle roots to offer a genuine alternative to bloated bridge cameras costing considerably more.

The Casio EX-Z1000 is a remarkable-looking little camera that proves Casio can create stylish and pocketable digital cameras with the best of them. The headline-grabbing feature is surely the 10.1-megapixel top resolution setting with all those pixels...
Good design and build, compact and easy to use, anti-shake mode with high sensitivity setting, 37 automated “BEST SHOT” (scene) modes.
Flash underpowered, noisy images in shadows and over ISO 200, purple fringing, detail loss due to noise suppression, marked barrel distortion at wide end of zoom.
This camera should have a lower resolution, say (the almost defacto) 6-megapixel resolution of most of its competitors. The race for bigger numbers has actually reduced the quality of the end result.

The UK's first 10 megapixel camera
First 10 megapixel camera for the UK, stylish design, colours in pics are bright and vibrant
Lots of noise in high sensitivity settings, mutliple ways of performing the same task in the menu can get confusing
Given the 10 megapixel boast, the Casio Exilim Z1000 proves to be a pleasantly surprising decent all-round performer. And by combining lots of understandable Best Shot modes with a decent quick settings shifter, there's no reason why first timers and...

Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 breaks through the ten megapixel barrier while remaining pocket sized. At the time of its release if lots of megapixels and a slim shape are important to you then this camera is one of the few options available to you.
Indoor photos ; Overall ease of use ; Features
Very small internal memory
Offering ten megapixels the Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 is likely to be a very popular digital camera. It takes a decent photo both indoors and outdoors. It has quite a range of different features for a camera in this category and also sports a large LCD...

If you thought the megapixel war between camera makers was over, you'll be surprised to learn of Casio's 10.1-megapixel EX-Z1000. Fortunately, there's more to this pocket-camera than the number of photo-diodes.
Great screen, intelligent layout, and sturdy build. Plenty of handy scene-based presets, including high-sensitivity mode
Noisy images at ISO 400 and above. Expensive

Controls are very well-placed and easy to use.; Responsive
Sharpening artefacts

Ten megapixels might sound over-powered for a compact, but the Z1000 handles large files admirably, without being over-ambitious in capturing fine detail. Its, easy and astonishingly fast to use, it has some new feature that are more than a match for...
