Nikon's first enthusiast's compact in three years. How does it compare?
The Nikon CoolPix P5000 isn't the top-drawer semi-pro compact that many were hoping for, but it is a well-made and well-specified camera suitable for more experienced photographers. Its lack of performance and slow AF system are handicaps, but...

A lighter way to enjoy photography?
Plenty of features ; Well built and handles well
Sluggish shutter and continuous mode ; Noise can be an issue
Nice try but the slow shutter and shooting speed make it more of a leisure camera. Shame... Nikon so nearly had it

The very compact Coolpix P5000 is just the type of camera you expect from Nikon, perched, as this one is, between the lower end point-n-shoot Coolpix models and the companies higher specified budget DSLRs such as the D40 and 40x. This is a camera that...
Specification, low ISO image quality, build, handling, lens, control layout is superb
Sluggish AF performance, optical viewfinder below par, no RAW capture, high ISO image quality, aggressive noise reduction at high ISO
A cracking package in terms of handling, controls and features that is capable of nice images at lower ISOs, but sluggish AF presented real problems with noise issues also leaving a nasty taste in the mouth.

The Nikon P5000 brings the creative controls of a D-SLR into the body of a compact camera. It isdesigned with a prominent grip for stable shooting, and features both an optical viewfinder and a large 2 , 5 inch LCD that offers an excellent display for...

Both the sluggish AF and noise issues marr a wonderful-looking package in terms of handling and controls, the excellent set of features and the capability to shoot good images at lower ISOs. I expected much better for this price however.
Great specification, low ISO image quality, good build, Excellent handling, nice lens, superb control layout
Sluggish AF, fuzzy optical viewfinder, lacks RAW mode, overly aggressive noise reduction at high ISO, poor high ISO image quality

The 10-megapixel Nikon P5000 is an enthusiasts' compact that offers manual control, a 3.5x zoom and Vibration Reduction.

A pocket camera for upgraders and digital enthusiasts
Nikon has produced a top end compact with bulging feature set and high quality image results. Its slow responses are quite damaging however.

Back in the bad old days when DLSRs cost over £2000 the prosumer bridge camera was pretty much what the average snapper could aspire to. Designed as a bridge between the world of compacts and SLRs these cameras were feature rich, in small bodies. The...
10Mp resolution; Good build quality; Easy to use; Metering and focus options; Optical viewfinder; Hotshoe; Powerful flash for a compact
Only 3.5x optical zoom
There are some nice features on the P5000 and it's comfortable to use and operate. The menus and button layout are a lesson in clarity and the focusing and metering options are great for those wanting to do a bit more with their compact or learn what...

When Canon decided to update its top-of-the-range compact with the PowerShot G7, arch rival Nikon must have started to worry. After all, a decent choice of high-end compacts has been distinctly lacking from Nikon's line-up - until the CoolPix P5000
Plenty of features, Well built and handles well
Sluggish shutter and continuous mode, Noise can be an issue
Nice try but the slow shutter and shooting speed make it more of a leisure camera. Shame... Nikon so nearly had it

The Nikon Coolpix P5100 is a 10 megapixel digital camera with an advanced set of features. Although on the large side to fit easily into a pocket, it is still very compact when considering the features it has packed inside. It is likely to appeal to...
Viewfinder - picture quality - design - build quality - LCD screen - features
High ISO picture quality
The Nikon Coolpix P5000 is an impressive digital camera. It has plenty of features and is likely to appeal to someone who sees photography as a hobby. One of the attractions of the Coolpix P5000 is that so many key features are packed into a very...
