The first digital camera with a built-in projector.

A compact camera with a built-in projector
Astonishing miniaturisation ; Plenty of helping tech
Projector is dim ; Images aren't stand-out
It's fun and technically amazing, but far from being the perfect compact

It is probably safe to start this review by saying that the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is the one with the projector. A bold move by Nikon, perhaps, launching a device that mashes together the trend for pico projectors with a regular 12-megapixel camera. So...
Good quality camera, accessories, it has a projector built-in!
A little more bulky than rivals, you pay a bit more too, so you really need to see the benefits
So the camera delivers decent results and the projector works too. But the real question is what you are going to do with it. We guess that if you are interested in the camera you can already see the benefits of having projection in the same device.

The race to put projectors in absolutely everything is gathering steam. Following the release of several recent low-cost "pico" projectors, the technology was then taken up by Samsung in a mobile phone, and Nokia and Apple filed similar patents shortly...
Project your images up to 40-inches, 12-megapixel sensor, usual bells and whistles from Nikon, 5x optical zoom
Why, why, why?

It is very difficult to get around the fact that the projector element of this camera is breathtakingly spectacular, but once the initial ‘Wow!' has died down it becomes clear that the projector is of less than perfect quality. Even so, simply as a...

When Nikon first announced the S1000pj Projector Camera I had a good laugh and just forget about it… But then the opportunity came for me to test this camera and to give it a try.

When does a gimmick become a practical extra?
The projector is far better than expected, but annoyingly the camera isn't. Another indication that the COOLPIX range is becoming depressingly predictable

While the majority of us spent the second half of last year over-excited about Apple tablets and Google phones, Nikon managed to quietly come out with a showstopper. The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is the world's first projector camera. While this may sound...
The projector -- the S1000pj is one of a kind (at the moment) and allows you to snap then show your images. Easy to use
The performance at high ISOs isn't staggering
Expert review by : George Cole (reghardware.co.uk)
Crams two devices into a surprisingly compact body, but its performance and functionality are a tad disappointing for the price.
There is no doubt that the Coolpix S1000pj is a great concept and a superb technical achievement but as a £400 camera the performance is pretty ordinary, not to mention the lack of manual control and HD movie recording. Nikon should also re-think some...

The projector works well and I can see it being a big hit at parties and for showing good old holiday snaps. It does add a premium to the price of the camera, so you will need to decide whether or not it is right for you. Picture quality is average and...
Ease of use - colours - picture quality - projector
Darkness can creep into corners when the lens is zoomed out - loss of picture sharpness in places
As you would expect the inclusion of the projector really does add a considerable premium to the price of the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj. So this is a case of buy this camera if you would like a digital camera with a projector, but buy a different model if...
