Blurring the lines between stills and video
Brilliant video specification ; Large and bright EVF ; Touchscreen interface ; Durable build ; Snappy performance
Image quality not class-leading ; ISO range could be broader
While the last couple of GH-series cameras have felt a little like video cameras masquerading as stills camera, the Panasonic Lumix GH5 is a much more rounded piece of kit. It's certainly one of the best 4K camera solutions out there, if not the best,...

Sure, it might be pipped in stills quality by the Fujifilm X-T2, but for video features and quality the Lumix GH5 is untouchable at this price point.
When it comes to pro 4K video capture there’s little else to compare ; Great stills camera too ; Abundant autofocus options and capability (including 6K Photo) ; Great EVF and LCD
Sony A99 II gives high-end users a lot to consider ; Some autofocus slip-ups (bright lighting ; In particular ; Causes issues) ; Chunky for a mirrorless camera
The camera world has been moving at a slow pace over the last couple of years, with only small gains to be made. If you were to compare the GH5's image quality to the earlier GH4, for example, then the gains aren't that significant.

Is Panasonic's new flagship the new 4K video master?
Smooth, stable 60fps 4K video ; Tons of controls ; Huge OLED viewfinder ; Weatherproof build
Not the greatest low light performer
A mighty CSC all-rounder with fantastic video performance

An update to the superb GH4, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH5 is the latest release from the GH range of compact system cameras (CSC). The previous model carved out a niche as a high-end videographer's tool, and we're anticipating the GH5 to follow suit. We...

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 features a 20 megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor, with sensor based 5-axis image stabilisation, combined with the lens' optical image stabilisation, which gives benefits for both stills photography and video recording.

The Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 is the mirrorless camera to get for 4K video, but if you're more concerned about stills, it's not a clear-cut winner.
Superlative video. Strong image quality. In-body stabilization. 10.3fps Raw capture. 4K and 6K photo modes. Sturdy all-weather build. Dual UHS-II card slots. Vari-angle touch LCD. EVF. Wi-Fi.
Focus tracking slows shooting rate. Pricey for stills-first shooters. Omits built-in flash.
If video is your primary focus, the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 delivers the highest quality and feature set you can find in a camera in this price range. Still shooters invested in the Micro Four Thirds system shouldn't discount it either. It delivers...
