We take a closer look at Sony's full-frame, 24MP DSLR.
The only things we found which may be applicable to a wider range of users include a slightly slow AF performance from the 28-75mm F2.8 SAM lens which is bundled with the Alpha A99, and a rather loose door to the side which accesses the microphone and...

Sony gets back in the full-frame game
24.3MP ; Noise under control ; AF Range control ; Articulating screen
AF slower than rivals ; Poor non-cross type AF ; Object Tracking mode is limited
After a four-year wait, Sony has brought out a replacement to the full-frame Alpha a900 camera, the 24.3MP Sony Alpha a99.

We knew the Sony Alpha A99 - the first full-frame single lens translucent (SLT) camera - was on its way, having played with it extensively back in 2012. Sony's transition from the traditional DSLR space to the SLT fold has seen the company make the...
Fast burst mode beyond its rivals, continuous autofocus in good light, movie mode, silent adjustment dial, electronic viewfinders don't come any better, full-frame image quality, vari-angle LCD mount, teleconverter mode, AF Range option
Centralised AF point arrangement, autofocus system not as fast or customisable as competition, AF point adjustment shows in black which can be hard to see, battery life really doesn't cut it, limited buffer feels inconsistent with burst feature,...
Taken in isolation and the Sony Alpha A99 has the makings of a great full-frame camera: sturdy build, a fast burst mode, decent image quality and an excellent movie mode are polished up all the more by quirky additions such as the silent mode dial,...

There's been a lot of talk about the Sony Alpha a99 for a long time now. The replacement for the full-frame a900 isn't a conventional DSLR, as was expected,

I admit, I really didn't like Sony's first full-frame cameras, the DSLR-A900 and its stripped-down sibling, the DSLR-A850 . I used to use them as examples of poor noise reduction and for before-and-after examples for the virtues of third-party...
The Sony Alpha a99 SLT-A99V has a lot going for it, including excellent photos and very good video, a well-constructed and well-designed body, solid performance, and a great feature set.
For some folks, things like the lack of CompactFlash, poor battery life, and compromises on video autofocus may not be reasonable trade-offs.
The Sony Alpha SLT-A99V is a generally great camera that's equally adept at both stills and video, but with a few caveats.

On paper the Alpha 99 reads well, and for the best part it is impressive in the hand, too. It is made to a high standard, its LCD screen and viewfinder are easy to use, and there are useful additional accessories available, namely the battery grip that...

The Sony Alpha A99 is Sony's premium full frame Digital SLR and the long awaited update to the Sony Alpha A900 and A850, introducing the SLT (Sony Translucent) technology to full frame, and could very well mark the end of optical viewfinders in Sony...
Excellent noise performance, Great image quality and excellent colour, AF range control, Lens AF fine tuning, Large strap, More standard ISO Flash than previous models, Info-Lithium Battery, Built in GPS, OLED viewfinder looks excellent, Continuous AF...
Doesn't automatically switch between memory card slots, Price compared to competition, Loud shutter sound

Sony's full-frame A99 has been a long time coming, but has the wait been worth it? The What Digital Camera Sony A99 review finds out
Light body, bright and detailed viewfinder, most flexible LCD on any camera, high level of customisation, general image quality, superb handling, Smart Teleconversion function, high-quality video
Delay in changing exposure settings, slow start up, electronic viewfinder can stagger, occasional focus freezing issues, unhelpful error messages lead to dead ends in operation

We look at the new Sony Alpha A99 Full Frame Digital SLR with a new 24.3 megapixel sensor.

Full-frame DSLRs used to be a luxury reserved only for the pros, but now there are a lot more options available at the most affordable prices ever. We take a look at the Sony a99.
Sony’s a99 is a good all-round camera with a high quality flip-out screen, electronic viewfinder and a wide range of other useful features. At £2199 we couldn’t help feeling the a99 is a little overpriced, especially since the battery life is so poor...
