An upscaling DVD player that's really rather good indeed
Great picture performance ; Unbeatable for standard-def footage
Seems expensive
While it's a bit pricey, we're confident that your standard definition DVDs will never look better

The Blu-Ray versus HD-DVD war is now in the trench warfare phase, with bemused consumers wearily traversing the no man's land between the sides. But there is a third way to go hi-def – with a high-end DVD upscaler like the Marantz DV7001. This home...

The DV7001 is a medium-priced high-spec straight DVD player - but note the word 'straight', which in this case applies specifically to the video subsection. Marantz has yet to commit irrevocably to either Blu-ray or HD DVD
An accomplished all-rounder, Improved audio quality
Film soundtracks can sound lightweight
An excellent and affordable disc player that will cope with almost anything round, silver and digitally encoded

You may well wonder why anyone would pay £600 for a DVD player when you can pick up a high definition HD DVD player for considerably less money. The answer is that the Marantz DV7001 is optimised for DVD playback and will deliver a superior picture
Superb picture quality, Easy-to-use menu system, Great sound
May seem expensive
A brilliant DVD player that justifies its price with a sublime performance with DVD and multi-channel audio sources

The Marantz DV7001 is a well-built, upscaling DVD player which will appeal to music and movie lovers alike.
Superior construction. Excellent sound and vision. Faroudja upscaling to 1080p.
On the pricey side. Few extra features on the DV6001. Older version of HDMI.
The Marantz DV7001 is a well-built, upscaling DVD player which will appeal to music and movie lovers alike

The DV7001 is a great audio player that also happens to do a fine job with video. SmartHouse celebrates its duality.
Excellent CD, SACD, and DVD-A playback; Scaling up to 1080p
Rudimentary GUI; HDMI 1.1 (Not 1.3)

Good picture and sound
Nothing specially

I auditioned an Oppo 980, a denon 1940ci and a Toshiba hd player.
build quality (get a clue oppo), no grainy pictures (unlike denons 1080p), realiability and 3 year warranty that actually covers the player (unlike toshiba whose player lasted 3 mos, and asked for $60 to repair their unit under the warranty, thanks...
even if the other companies stepped up. Marantz would (I bet anyways) jump ahead of them. They actually care if you are satisfied (30 day auditions). Only negative is lack of real competitors (Marantz seems to be competing with line up)

Amazing audio and very good video. Needs firmware update to upscale Pal at 50 hz.
Looks ; Impressive sound quality ; Video quality ; Reads everything I've put into it
HDMI Upscaling output only at 60 hz
