The most basic Kindle model is the easiest to recommend for the majority of people. It's affordable and packs a fantastic screen for reading
Compact size sets it apart from the larger Paperwhite and Oasis ; Very sharp display makes reading a pleasure ; The switch to USB-C is welcome ; Access to Amazon Prime’s ebook and audiobook ecosystem
Slight price increase ; Misses out on a waterproof body ; Feels a bit cheap
The most basic Kindle model is the easiest to recommend for the majority of people. It’s affordable, packs a fantastic screen for reading and finally has USB-C for charging.

A cumulation of 15 years' ebook experience?
Decent price ; Compact design is good for travellers ; Excellent battery life ; Improved screen
Screen may be too small for some ; Not the most comfortable to hold ; Reliance on Amazon services may frustrate
The Amazon Kindle (2022) is a great basic ereader – with the emphasis on ‘basic’. This means it’s a great second device for people who want to read their Kindle library while travelling, but if you’re looking for a main ereader for use at home, then...

Amazon's newest entry-level Kindle has a much sharper display and USB-C charging, making it even better than ever.
Compact and lightweight design ; USB-C charging ; Sharper display makes text crisp ; Wide ecosystem of books
No waterproofing ; No adjustable warmth or auto brightness ; More expensive than older model
With its much sharper display and USB-C charging port, the entry-level Kindle is better than ever and is the Kindle we'd recommend for most people. It gets all the important things absolutely right. It's a great reading device.

It's not as good as the Paperwhite but with an improved display the entry-level Kindle is more than good enough
Good display ; USB-C charging ; Fast performance
Ads on cheaper model ; Not waterproof ; Scuffs easily ; Restrictive sideloading options
Amazon’s entry-level 2022 Kindle packs in USB-C charging for the first time and an improved display, but it’s still insulting to pay more to not see lock screen ads. It’s still the cheapest Kindle, but the Paperwhite and Kobo Clara 2E are attractive...

Even if you prefer physical books.
Lightweight ; Brightness settings are great for reading in bed ; Small size makes it super portable and easy to hold in one hand ; Made from recycled materials ; Battery lasts for weeks

The Kindle (2022) is the most basic e-reader that Amazon offers, but for some, that's simply enough.
Lightweight and compact size 6-inch e-ink screen with 300 ppi Dark mode and backlight display USB-C charging and great battery life Very affordable
No ambient light sensor Not waterproof
“Amazon's base-model Kindle gets some big upgrades this year, making it a worthy option to pick up for a mere $100.”

The latest entry-level Kindle has enough appealing new features to make you think twice before paying up for a Paperwhite.
Slightly lighter and smaller design than previous model ; 300 ppi high-resolution display ; Built-in light ; Good value ($40 less than Kindle Paperwhite) ; USB-C charging
Not waterproof ; Lacks more premium feel of Paperwhite
Expert review by : Will Greenwald (pcmag.com)
The latest Amazon Kindle has a screen as sharp as the Paperwhite, along with more storage and longer battery life than its predecessor.

The Amazon Kindle (2022 release) is just about as on-point as it gets when it comes to reading digital books. Is this the last evolution of the ereader?
Long-lasting battery life ; USB-C port ; Great resolution at 300ppi ; Huge library of content
One-trick pony ; Too many other devices do the same trick
