The Asus ROG Ally launched looking to trump the Steam Deck but it now faces a growing gaming handheld field.
More powerful than a Steam Deck ; Streamlined and stylish design ; Full HD screen is colourful and vibant ; Windows 11 is user friendly
Expensive compared to competitors ; Poor battery life ; 120Hz screen feels wasted here
The Asus ROG Ally is a more powerful alternative to the Steam Deck. It features a superior design and more user-friendly software. That high price is hard to justify, however, especially with the poor battery life. Competition is more fierce now too,...

The Asus ROG Ally packs a wealth of gaming prowess into a handheld package
Familiar interface ; Top notch performance ; Easy to customise ; Massively immersive
Battery life is poor ; A bit cumbersome
If you want the most capable, compatible handheld gaming platform, this is it. The interface feels familiar thanks to Windows 11, and gaming performance is truly excellent, with a host of user configurable parameters to tailor it to your style.

The ROG Ally is a perfect option for PC gamers who don't mind tinkering and tweaking. It's not for everyone though.
Superb screen visuals ; Capable speakers ; Quiet operation
Battery life struggles ; User experience frustrations
The ROG Ally is a perfect option for PC gamers who don't mind tinkering and tweaking. It's not for everyone though, as the user experience frustrations caused by Windows might annoy some. However, the upshot is the access to many more games on the go.

This Windows 11-powered portable majors on performance, but software holds the Asus ROG Ally back - at least for now
Powerful yet quiet internals great for gaming ; Crisp, variable refresh screen a delight ; Ergonomic controls
Software has lots of room for improvement ; Battery life isn’t all that great ; Needs more control customisation
Windows has a way to go on this new breed of gaming gadget, and battery life isn’t stellar, but the ROG Ally is otherwise a high-powered handheld with a great screen and excellent ergonomics.

Now that the launch dust has settled, Asus' ROG Ally has seen a lot of changes, and they aren't all for the better.
Solid performance Acceptable battery life Beautiful, 120Hz screen Flexible control scheme Support for basically any PC game
Turbo mode drains battery quickly Windows has a lot of quirks Armoury Crate is a utility, not an OS
“Better performance, more games, and acceptable battery life make the Asus ROG Ally a winner despite its issues.”

The Asus ROG Ally is not an outright Steam Deck killer, but smart hardware, software, and design decisions make for a fun, exciting Windows-based handheld game console.

Asus stumbles off the starting block
Smooth gaming performance ; Bright, vivid display ; Punchy buttons and triggers ; Lightweight, comfortable design ; Affordable
Runs hot ; Doesn't ship with a carrying case
The Asus ROG Ally pulls no punches as it comes for the Steam Deck, bringing a custom AMD CPU and a full HD, 120Hz display

The Asus ROG Ally is a strong attempt at creating a handheld PC gaming device, but the very thing at the heart of PC gaming - Windows, dampens the overall experience.
Price: ; Rs 69,999
Handheld gaming consoles haven’t seen too many new entrants in the past decade or so. Of course, we had the Nintendo Switch, but beyond that absolutely nothing from the other two console giants, Sony and Microsoft. It is largely an effect of your...

Comfortable to hold ; Easy to carry around ; Great 1080p 120Hz display ; Solid battery life ; Armoury Crate SE works well ; Run full Windows 11
Face buttons and d-pad feel kind of mushy ; One USB-C port ; Some software bugs like crashes when running more intense games ; More expensive than competitors like the Steam Deck ; Travel case not included, sold separately
Overall, the Asus ROG Ally is a good gaming handheld that lets you easily play PC games on the go.
