A compact and powerful sat nav, only let down by its speakers
Good screen ; Easy to follow ; Nice styling ; Powerful
Poor quality speaker
With a whole host of good features, it's disappoiting that this device should fall down on something so important as it's audible directions

HP has also bundled TeleAtlas's newest maps with 3D landmarks and realistic elevation of bridges and overpasses. And it's given you the option to run the maps full-screen on the device, with only very basic next-turn overlays.
Well I was about to buy one of these but this has ALMOST put me off. The device runs a version of iGo - little heard of but probably the best navigation software on the market and 800% faster when running on an old HP travelerthan a Garmin 660. Also...

What happens when the big boys take on the sat-nav experts? The HP iPaq 314 happens
The HP is a joy to behold, but doesn’t quite come through in day-to-day use

Poor software design and usability undermine the high-quality hardware of the HP iPaq 310 Travel Companion GPS Device.
The HP iPaq 310 Travel Companion is good-looking hardware that handles navigation basics fine. But until the extras work better, it's not worth the high price.

With established brands like TomTom, Mio and Garmin churning out featured-packed navigators with wanton abandon, it's a little surprising to see a company that's relatively inexperienced in this sector trying to get involved. HP certainly isn't ...
We have to admit to being surprised at the consistently excellent performance of the iPAQ. It's accurate and easy to use on the road, with an impressive degree of control and some of the most effective media playback facilities we've seen on a sat-nav....

A quality all-round GPS
The Ipaq 314 represents extremely good value for money, although the mapping and general travel assistance is not quite up to the high standards set by Tom Tom

HP's iPAQ 312 is a strange device. Fitting somewhere between a PDA, a GPS and a mobile phone accessory, this unit packs in GPS functionality with some...
Great display, robust GPS software, touch screen works flawlessly, 3.5mm headphone jack
Some slowdown at times, video play stutters, not all icons are clearly labelled
Performing well in a number of areas, HP's iPAQ 312 is a bit of a jack of all trades. While the media playback features are a bit of a gimmick, the GPS is robust and the Bluetooth hands-free functions well, making this a solid choice for users who have...

Batman has Robin, Sherlock has Watson. Hell, even Mr. Burns has his ever-attentive Smithers. So it's reasonable that globe-hopping travelphiles should have an equally dedicated,...
2-D and 3-D map options are clean and easy to read. GPS tracking while on foot or in a vehicle works without a digital hiccup. Multiple voice and language options. Scroll-wheel controller makes zooming in on maps smoother than a Barry White album
Spades of extras + deep operating system = steep learning curve. Toggling between features often causes menu to temporarily stall. Only two measly gigs of included memory? Looks like we’re not giving up our iPods anytime soon
