With a 4.3in display and a nifty business directory, the Navman S50 3D makes a persuasive case as the best budget in-car sat-nav money can buy.

We like almost everything about the Navman, especially the price, but it's let down by that flakey touchscreen.
Menus are easy to get around. 3D representations - ooh! It's cheap!
Unresponsive touchscreen grates.

A new 3D Satnav system has arrived for us to test. The Navman S50 3D is an upgraded S50 GPS unit with 3D icons for major landmarks, the only question is can we find any

Weighing in at 190g and sizing up at 79x139x19mm, the Navman's user-friendly satnav, the S50, packs in a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a SiRFstarIII chipset, 512MB internal Flash memory and an SD/MMC card slot. Navman's also thrown in integrated Bluetooth,...
Useful features (Bluetooth, safety cameras, full postcode search) just about outweigh the gimmicks (NavPix) in this decent budget satnav choice. Navman S50 3D is tagged with Navman and satnav. Select a tag (Navman, for example) to find everything on...

We've previously reviewed the Navman S50 before on this web site. Overall the S50 was a reasonable sat nav with a good navigation system, but let down by a poorly designed cradle.

The S50 is the second model in Navman's S-Series range and adds NavPix, a larger 4.3in widescreen display and hands-free calling with Bluetooth connec...
Stylish design, compact window mount, vivid interface, keyboard says letters out loud, preloaded speed and red light camera alerts, Bluetooth handsfree, NavPix
Re-routing times are a little slow, no text-to-speech, no built-in camera for NavPix
The S50 adds Bluetooth handsfree and NavPix for a reasonable price. Although there is no camera to take NavPix photos, it's still a useful application.

This GPS is blessed with a good price and attractive design but is marred by its buggy Bluetooth and horrible windshield mount.
Attractive design ; Does the navigation thing quite well ; Good value ; Big, wide screen ; Simple menus
Crazy windshield mount ; Buggy Bluetooth ; Navpix next to useless ; Sluggish response when trying to find satellites
So while it never lives up to the advertising claim that the S-Series is "better than a London cabbie", the S50 is a good GPS. And while we like the extra screen acreage, the buggy Bluetooth implementation is a worry. If you're dead keen on buying this...
