The SteelSeries Apex 3 sheds some bulk and arrives in the increasingly popular TKL form, but how does it stack up against the competition?...
+ Great build quality + Bright, vibrant RGB lighting + Lovely keyswitch actuation + Reasonably priced
- Very uncomfortable without a wrist rest - No print screen button
The TKL keyboard certainly is popular amongst gamers these days, and there are some big trade-offs but these are outweighed by the advantages of the smaller form-factor. The Apex 3 TKL, however, probably doesn’t do enough to maintain that balance.

The focus is often put onto expensive keyboards boasting many superfluous features that often add cost more than usefulness. Today we're looking at something which gets back down to the basics, the A...
+ Incredible performance for the money + Rubber dome keys feel really nice + RGB lighting + Media controls + Including wrist rest + Good build quality + Great SteelSeries Engine 3 software
- Software lacks preset RGB lighting effects - Delay on the play/pause button
Typically, when reviewing budget hardware such as this, we need to constantly remind ourselves of the price and why certain features are missing or performance is lacking. The Apex 3 is the exception to that rule. What a keyboard SteelSeries have made...

Budget gaming keyboards can be iffy, to say the least. Walking the tightrope between affordability and quality is a tricky thing, and one of them usually winds up being left behind. The Apex 3, however, manages to balance both elegantly.
Nice rubber-dome switches ; Solid hardware ; Water resistance ; Good RGB lighting and features
Software's lackluster

Water-resistant, media keys and only $45
+ Adjustable feet ; + Affordable ; + Dedicated media keys ; + Silent switches ; + User-friendly software
- Cable isn’t detachable ; - No per-key RGB ; - Too lightweight
SteelSeries’ new Apex 3 TKL is waterproof, quiet and unlike any other keyboard that I have used at this low of a price. It easily does more than most other $45 gaming keyboards.

The SteelSeries Apex 3 will get the job done, but a cheap office keyboard would serve almost as well.
instead, that'd be my primary recommendation.

Volume scroll, it may seem like a small thing but I absolutely love this feature. Keyboard feels great when using it and not had any issues.

Well built quality and intuitive design. Like most Steel series products, they make great high quality products which work and perform well.
The typing experience could be improved a little. I am aware that this is not a mechanical keyboard, but the typing experience does not feel "premium".

Lovely to the touch and looks great!
Can't see the caps lock light unless you peer over the button below it
Consumer review (currys.co.uk)
Reasonably quiet, feels well built
Consumer review (currys.co.uk)
Quiet and comes with a wrist wrest.
Make the keyboard a bit more study as if you press down hard, the keyboard bends.
