The new Asus ZenBook 14 features a ScreenPad - a trackpad that's also a screen. Is this an Apple TouchBar on steroids or a fancy gimmick?
New and improved ScreenPad is easier to use;ScreenPad is big and ultra-responsive;Blue and gold design stands out from the pack
ScreenPad still eats into the battery;Low colour gamut scores will put off pro creatives

The 14-inch version of Asus' Pro laptop, with a trackpad that doubles as a second screen/touchpad, is designed with a creative audience in mind.
Quirky ScreenPad trackpad adds creative control ; Tiny bezel surrounds the screen ; Good array of connections
ScreenPad gets hot in use ; Battery limited compared to ZenBook standard models ; Not ultra-high resolution
The Pro for when on the go. The new 14-inch Asus mixes power with a trackpad that doubles down as a secondary screen. It's a creative solution for a specific audience.

For most people, this notebook can settle most of your needs - affordably.
Great specifications ; Good performance ; Discrete graphics ; Meets MIL-STD-810 standards ; Attractive price ; Wi-Fi 6 support ; Full-size USB-A and HDMI ports
No Thunderbolt 3 port ; No USB-C charging ; ScreenPad 2.0 is gimmicky ; Below average battery life

Good, but not as good as I hoped it would be.
Strong integrated graphics performance ; Light and portable ; Touchpad becomes a numpad ; 1W screen option
No audio jack ; No fingerprint sensor ; Not-great webcam
The newest ZenBook 14 is a decent portable laptop with a new Tiger Lake processor. I tested the $1,099 configuration, which includes Intel’s Core i7-1165G7 with Xe integrated graphics, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, a 67Wh battery, and a 1920 x 1080...

The ZenBook 14 UX434FL is a lightweight yet robust 14-inch laptop. The ScreenPad may or may not appeal, but don't let that distract you from the rest of what's on offer here.
Compact, lightweight and robust ; Minimal screen bezels ; Innovative ScreenPad/touchpad combo ; Good speakers ; Discrete Nvidia GPU
Reflective main screen ; ScreenPad drains the battery
