GIGABYTE's super-slim and compact gaming notebook is in the spotlight - featuring Intel Core i7-6700HQ, 16GB DDR4 and NVIDIA's GTX 970M.

Fifth time's the charm. The latest 14-inch refresh comes new with Skylake, DDR4, HDMI 2.0, USB Type-C, and a WQHD display option. Are these updates major enough to get users over the fence?
very thin and lightweight for the performance, no CPU or GPU throttling under gaming loads, fast display response times, quiet under low loads, USB Type-C gen. 2, DDR4, HDMI 2.0, NVMe, VGA-out, easily accessible internals
system fans are always active, WQHD panel is dimmer and with a narrower color gamut, no significant performance boost over previous generation, no Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort ports, no RAID or touchscreen options, no dedicated Macro keys, no G-Sync...
In terms of raw performance, the P34W v5 matches many gaming notebooks twice its size. There is otherwise a very marginal performance boost compared to the P34W v3 aside from the throttling hotfix, so users should not be expecting runaway improvements...

The Gigabyte P34W v5 is a fairly typical gaming laptop that sacrifices looks to bring value with decent gaming specs. Powered by an Intel Skylake Core i7-6700HQ CPU and a GeForce GTX 970M GPU, a decent display, and a body that won't be setting any...
Decent gaming hardware for the price, including a GTX 970M and up to a 1440p IPS display. Good selection of ports.
Extremely bland design, with a mediocre keyboard and terrible trackpad. Substandard cooling solution makes the laptop run hot and loud. Smaller than average battery capacity.
Despite the Gigabyte P34W v5 ticking many boxes on paper, unfortunately the final product isn’t polished or impressive enough for me to recommend it over competing gaming laptops on the market.

I replaced the 128GB SSD with a Samsung EVO 850 500GB and everything runs blazing fast. Mine came with 8GB of G.Skill F3-1866C10S-8GRSL, so I installed a second stick without any issues. Eventually I will repaste the CPU/GPU with IC7 to bring down the...
- Incredibly fast CPU/GPU - Matte screen with nice viewing qualities - Bottom panel is removable for easy access - Thin, light, and not ugly like most gaming laptops - No bloatware
- Gets hot fairly quick - Keyboard isn't bad, but isn't great - The touchpad buttons aren't split (they sort of bend at the edges) - Faint light bleed at certain angles when the screen is totally black

Powerful for the size
Actually weighs 4.2 pounds, instead of the 3.57 advertised. This is not acceptable. Throttling when playing games

Love the machine and would recommend it if the power button would work consistently but it is heart ache.
- Awesome performance - Battery Life is a lot better than expected. I am able to play games on high performance for more than an hour and do work for around 4+ hours - Great look. I like the simplicity of the flat black - I was worried about the arrow...
- Biggest complaint is the power button and the only real one. First time getting this laptop it wouldn't turn on. After a while an repetitive panic of pushing the power it came on. After that, often times I press the button and the fan kicks on but...

So far I have not encountered anything serious that would make me want to return this laptop. At the price I paid for it ($1099) its an absolute steal! I should also note that the speakers were surprisingly good; base was good considering they are so...
Very Mobile -- Super light considering its power Gaming Ready -- Using Nvidia's optimizer, it preset Fallout 4 to ultra settings and held a solid 60fps! (~200fps in LoL maxed out) Solid Construction -- I was most surprised by the construction... Its...
Keyboard -- Not the best keyboard I have seen. Very clicky with not much linear travel. (you will need to get used to this) Software -- Applications become blurry because of the software. This is probably fixable so take this "con" lightly. Charger --...

Overall I am satisfied thus far with this purchase. I mainly use it for projects on Premiere and Photoshop.
Amount of power crammed into 14in laptop is amazing! Primary mSata drive is really fast. Lightning quick boot up time. I am able to start working relatively quick. The screen is sharp, even when viewing from outside during the day.
The fans can be quite noisy when the laptop gets hot. And it seems to heat up quite easily when you have multiple apps running. There still is more room to place the PgUp, PgDn, Home, and End keys somewhere else instead on having to really on the...

I considered cancelling the order when I saw the new Dell XPS 15 (9550) on sale for a little more. I'm pretty picky and assumed the Gigabyte build quality wouldn't be up to par. Ultimately, I decided to give the Gigabyte a shot and I'm glad I did....
Build quality and screen are much better than I expected. I'm used to IPS touch screens of ipads and windows convertibles and was expected to be disappointed with the matte screen. I was wrong. The screen is sharp, viewing angles are great, colors look...
Keyboard - I wish they would have put page up, page down, home, end keys to the right of the keyboard instead of forcing "Fn" + direction keys. There's room for it. Also, the keyboard is a little noisy (clicking sounds). 128GB for a primary Windows...
