The Alcatel Idol 4S is the French company's latest flagship smartphone. It aims to entice buyers away from more expensive, well-known handsets, such as the Galaxy S7 or HTC 10, by packing in more extras than you can shake a stick at. The biggest of...

A phablet worth checking out
Sleek design ; Clear screen
Lightweight feel ; Lower-spec CPU
A hidden gem from MWC, the Alcatel Idol 4S is a phone that impresses for a pretty low price point given the spec list.

The smartphone market is bizarre and almost completely unrecognisable from the state it was in just 5 years ago. In years gone by, the Windows Phone platform
For fans of the Windows 10 platform on mobile, it'll be a great relief to see the operating system running on an attractive, fairly well-priced device with great specifications. Perhaps the biggest downside is that - right now - it's only available as...

Alcatel, formerly known as Alcatel OneTouch, announced the Idol 4 series of smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2016, succeeding the Idol 3 range. The Alcatel Idol 4 series is far more exciting than you might first believe. Both the Idol 4 and the...

Alcatel Idol 4s Review with VR headset: French mobile giant Alcatel is back in the UK with a premium and pretty bloody massive flagship phone,...
Strong battery life ; Bundled VR headset ; Dependable cameras ; Gorgeous Quad HD visuals
Scratchy face ; No fingerprint sensor
The Idol 4s faces stiff competition at the £400 price point from the likes of the Sony Xperia X, OnePlus 3 and Samsung Galaxy A5, but it’s definitely got plenty of appeal thanks to a solid pair of cameras, decent battery life and a gorgeous Quad HD...

Alcatel throws everything at the Idol 4S except the kitchen sink. But it's not quite enough to be the best midrange phone.
Alcatel's Idol 4S comes packed with features and accessories. It has a high-end design and build, a great camera, impressive display and a convenience button dubbed the Boom Key.
The Boom Key needs finessing: It's easy to accidentally activate. The fingerprint scanner is small and sometimes difficult to engage.
With a premium build, good camera and free accessories in the box, Alcatel's Idol 4S is a solid midrange buy.

Fancy an affordable VR-friendly smartphone? Take a look at Alcatel's flagship effort
Incredible bang for your buck ; Ready for VR – and not just Google Cardboard, either ; Brilliant sound and great display
Power not quite up to par ; Design is a little dated
The Alcatel Idol 4S is an excellent all-round phone that gives the OnePlus 3 some serious competition in the best budget phone stakes

You get a premium phone, VR headset and a bunch of other goodies for $399.99. Now that's a value.
High-quality build-quality ; All-day battery life ; Loud, clear front-facing speakers ; Smooth, speedy performance ; Expandable storage
Awkward power button key ; Glass back scratches easily ; Average VR headset
Alcatel's Idol 4S, which bundles a VR headset and other goodies, offers a boatload of value for only $399.99.

The Alcatel Idol 4S' biggest selling point is not what came in the box, but the box itself, which doubles as a VR headset. The $350 (pre-order price) device comes with its own VR viewer so you can immediately start exploring immersive content when you...
Included VR goggles ; Affordable ; Loud, two-way speakers ; Bright, roomy display
Not as fast as competing phones ; Camera struggles in low light

We first caught a glimpse of the Alcatel Idol 4s at the MWC 2016, back in February, where, in keeping with Alcatel tradition, it was piled together with another basic Idol 4 model, as well as three other POP4 devices. Still, even amid the announcement...
