With the iPhone 12, Apple has brought down many of its ‘Pro' level features from last year's iPhone 11 Pro down to the cheaper model.
Fantastic new design reminiscent of the iPhone 5;Exceptional performance;Very reliable cameras
Screen lacks some of the benefits you’ll find elsewhere; If the notch annoyed you before, it’ll annoy you again

The iPhone 12 is still a solid phone taking great photos
Colorful OLED display ; Future-proofed with 5G ; MagSafe is intriguing
Cameras are similar to last year ; Battery life only okay ; Hike in price over iPhone 11

The iPhone 12 is still one of the best iPhones for most people
Fantastic HDR screen & high-quality camera ; Future-proofed with 5G and powerful innards ; New design and build quality
Average battery life ; Only a dual-lens camera ; 60Hz screen
The iPhone 12 is the ideal iPhone for most people, thanks to class-leading screen quality, high-quality cameras and great future-proofing (including 5G). But these features come at slightly high price compared to competitors.

Apple takes the standard iPhone to another level
Impressive OLED display ; Musical sound ; Slick and speedy interface
No charger in the box ; Pricier than before
The iPhone 12 delivers impressive picture and sound quality in a premium smartphone package

Apple's standard iPhone model took a step up in a couple of areas. Is it still worth buying?
OLED display ; More powerful processor ; Better camera experience ; Dolby Vision support ; MagSafe ; 5G
No telephoto lens ; Smudges easily ; Colours aren't as playful as previous years ; Price bump over previous year
For the group of people who want a new iPhone without the price tag of the iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 13 range, this is a great choice. There's no settling for second best with this smartphone.

The iPhone 12 is the most capable iPhone to date, making it harder than ever to justify the upgrade to the iPhone 12 Pro range.

Say no to Pro?
Stunning to look at and impressively light in the hand ; Finally an OLED display for the non-Pro iPhone ; 5G future-proofed ; Brilliant, versatile camera system
We’d rather have a telephoto than the ultra-wide ; 5G may be here, but most people won’t find much of it yet ; Battery life decent rather than brilliant
Better design, a better display and all the power you’ll ever need make the iPhone 12 a marked improvement over the already great 11 – but don’t buy it for 5G

There are few things more predictable than the yearly iPhone launch, however the iPhone 12 brings with it more upgrades than usual. It likely won't interest those who picked up an 11 Pro last year, but if you're still clinging on to an older device...
– Fantastic new design, reliable cameras and a huge display upgrade
– Zoom skills are poor, no charger included
The iPhone 12 is great, and a worthy upgrade if you’re hanging on to an older model or you simply must have the latest iPhone. It has a great screen, all-day battery and a design that puts pretty much everything else to shame.

Apple's more affordable 6.1in phone is almost indistinguishable from the 12 Pro in all the key areas. Our iPhone 12 review explains why this is the best option for most people right now
Blazingly fast ; Superb camera setup ; 5G-ready
Battery life is so-so ; No telephoto lens
Considering how close the iPhone 12 comes to the 12 Pro in the key areas (design, speed, camera performance) while costing £200/$170 less, we'd recommend this as the best choice for most iPhone buyers right now.

Find out how the iPhone 12 scores in our review.
Stunning OLED screen ; Enhanced camera ; Excellent battery life ; More sustainable design ; 5G ready ; Cool MagSafe addition
Pricier than iPhone 11 ; No USB-C port ; No power cable in box ; No third telephoto camera
The iPhone 11 was the one-size-fits-all iPhone of last year, and the iPhone 12, in some ways, offers a touch of ‘Pro’ style, owing to that glorious OLED display.
