With a super fast processor onboard and huge touch-screen, is this the new king of smartphones?

Can the most powerful mobile phone ever built compete with the iPhone?
Large touchscreen ; Pocket friendly ; Good organiser ; Novel design
Poor OS ; Slow to re-orientate screen ; Underpowered internet browser ; Complicated menus ; Video quality not as expected
A good concept ruined by too many mistakes - there's only so much the Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade can fix.

Yet for all its amazing looks and that 4.1in (800x800-pixel) screen, when the Toshiba TG01 finally launched, it failed to ignite.
The Toshiba TG01 a truly amazing device on which to watch an HD video trailer or the latest glammed up pop video. The sound is good too, but for one-person entertainment rather than talking to anyone at the other end. And this is the Toshiba TG01’s...

The Toshiba TG01 boasts one of the biggest touchscreens we've seen on a mobile (4.1-inch). According to Toshiba, the TG01 has been optimised to run multiple applications while conserving battery power…

So, the Toshiba TG01. This has been eagerly awaited by many. Toshiba have at last released a Windows Mobile phone and, after glancing at the specifications, they've come up with one hugely powerful device. For a start there's that capacious screen - ...
Everything good about this phone comes from third-party apps and the hardware Toshiba have on tap. The homescreen is good, CorePlayer is great, the Orange Maps system is great, the PhotoBase application is great. The hardware is fantastic too, but...

The TG01 was the first smartphone to use Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon processor -- followed in short order by HTC's Touch HD2. It's a seriously fast chip, and is the first we've seen capable of running Windows Phone smoothly -- the TG01's installed 6.5...
Big screen; slim
Clunky software; washed-out screen

Toshiba is known for laptop computers but not so much for phones and smartphones. Its TG01 is a Windows Mobile smartphone with some good points and some very irritating ones. The physical design is both ...
With its huge screen and fast processor the TG01 ought to be a ground-breaking, exciting device. It is the former, but a poor user interface means is definitely not the latter, which is a great pity.

The Toshiba TG01 is by far one of the largest mobiles I have seen in a long while and Toshiba will be hoping it can manage to live up to its large reputation in more ways than just its size. The Toshiba TG01 What's in the box?...

It's big and it's thin and fast, but it can be a bugger to use.
The size and layout of the Toshiba TG01 take a bit of getting used to, and its good points include that huge screen, wafer thin profile and high functionality count. The trouble is, it's just not that easy to use, from the unresponsive touch screen to...

We review the Toshiba TG01, the company's first foray into Snapdragon smartphone territory
HSDPA and Wi-Fi ; 4.1-in (800x480) screen ; Aesthetics ; Bundled apps
Operating system ; Orientation lag ; No inbuilt home for stylus ; Operator exclusivity
Could. Do. Better. An upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 might help make this pretty smartphone more appealing, although a different OS may well seal the deal.
