No rechargeable battery, Limited appeal, Distortion in speakers at high volume

The Sansa Shaker is a great introduction to the world of portable music and will no doubt keep kids and pre-teens amused for hours.

Whenever I buy a toy for my good friends' two-year-old son, I like to make sure it makes a lot of noise. That's because, in my experience, kids love loud toys, even though parents hate them. I'm glad to say that SanDisk's Sansa Shaker, an MP3 player...

Easy to use. Upgradable to 2GB. Built-in speaker. Loaded with amusing sound effects. Durable plastic design. Dual earphone jacks

Battery cover is easy to remove. No rechargeable battery. Earbuds sound lousy

The Shaker is a simple $35 MP3 player for kids that has several sound effects parents will "enjoy" hearing through the built-in speaker.

The flap covering the ports on the bottom of the Shaker may not be durable over time, and the lack of rechargeable battery may not appeal to everyone. The player only supports MP3s.

If you want to get your children started on digital music at a young age, the Sansa Shaker provides a great way to do so: it's inexpensive, simple, and acts like a toy.
