Has Sony come up with a worthy competitor to the iPod touch?
Not the touch beater some of us wished for, but an excellent touchscreen PMP boasting what might just be the best sound quality of any player in its class. Mildly disappointing, but warmly recommended.

It's got an amazing sound, but this Sony falls down flat on its poor internet browsing capabilities
Class-leading sound quality ; video is colourful and punchy ; plenty of functionality ; strong, fast wireless internet connection
Internet browser is often ineffective ; bigger screen would be nice
While we’re taken aback by how good it sounds, the poor performance of the browser just can’t compensate

The new X-series Walkman is Sony's first stab at a proper multimedia portable device to rival Apple's iPod Touch
Smart, compact looks ; good-looking OLED screen ; sound quality is superb
Wireless browsing is clunky
Sound quality will threaten the iPod Touch but in terms of multimedia performance it falls short

When we first saw the Sony Walkman X-Series, we almost couldn't believe it was a Walkman. Sure, other Walkman models we've tested have scored highly for audio quality, but none have really stood out for me as a candidate for the ultimate portable media...
We wish Sony had priced the Sony Walkman X-Series a bit more aggressively against the iPod. While it is certainly on a par with the touch in terms of audio and video quality, the Walkman just doesn't have the touch's readily available plethora of apps...

Sony's answer to the iPod Touch has finally arrived. Is this the best Walkman yet?
Not quite the portable revolution we'd hoped for, but a worthwhile contender for your pocket space

The Sony Walkman was the ultimate playground accessory when I was growing up in the 80′s, but recent efforts to modernise the player to incorporate new, digital media have been a little underwhelming. However their latest model, the Walkman NWZ-X1060,...
The NWZ-X1060 is a decent return to form for the Sony Walkman, although overall, doesn’t quite match the all-powerful iPod Touch for all-round features and usability. Having said that, the X1060 really trounces the Apple device in terms of sound...

Part of Sony's new X-series of Walkman portable media players, the NWZ-X1050 sports a brand new design and makes a variety of improvements over previous versions. Things get off to a good start with the 3-inch ...
We're not fans of the fiddly built-in web browser, but the NWZ-X1050 is an otherwise excellent portable media player. The screen is bright and clear, it's easy to use and, above all, audio quality is simply stunning. If you've no need for the...
