A novel rethink of the all-in-one inkjet, with its ultra-fast vertical scanner and an unconventional, supposedly small-footprint design.

Lexmark's innovative multifunction printer is more than just a gimmick

Does this mould-breaking device represent a rebirth for the multifunction printer?
Small footprint ; Very fast image capture ; Versatile mini-apps ; Good print quality
Limited 'scanning' resolution ; Only one paper tray

It's not often you see something a bit different in the printer/AIO market but Lexmark has produced a device that should turn a few heads in the Genesis S815. Most immediately striking are the aesthetics, since it utilises an innovative vertical design...
Excellent print quality, useful online resources, impressive touchscreen, super-fast scans
Very slow print speeds, expensive
The Genesis S815 is a great looking device capable of some excellent quality output, a super-fast scan feature that actually works and additional benefits in the online content available. £400-ish is still a lot to pay though, and since it loses points...

The Genesis S815 is a multifunctional inkjet printer with Wi-Fi functionality that possesses printing, scanning, copying and faxing capability. The notable feature of this unit is its built-in 10-megapixel digital camera which transmits scans virtually...

The Genesis S815 (420x386x321mm, 8.7kg) delivers everything a modern home office requires from a multifunction device. It can copy, scan, fax and e-mail at the touch of a button. Network connectivity comes via 802.11n Wi-Fi. There's no Ethernet or...
It also produces good quality prints, albeit not up to enthusiast photography levels. If performance trumps design, there are better AIOs for high-resolution scanning, better document handling and photo printing. For everyday casual use, the Genesis...

This is a completely different shape for a Multi Function unit. It is Multi Function as not only does it print, scan and copy but should you still need the facility it can also be used as a Fax machine. The shape is higher rather than wider.
The design of this unit is very different so much more can be done from the touchscreen TFT, Smart Solutions could be useful and the Lexmark software monitors not only its own card slot and USB stick port but also those on the PC so printing images...

Lexmark produces a number of capable, budget printers and all-in-one devices - so we were surprised to see the company breaking the multifunction printer mould a little with the innovatively designed Genesis S815. Combining print, scan, ...
Lexmark's Genesis S815's styling should attract a few appreciative glances - and it backs up its smooth lines with excellent quality results, albeit delivered at rather slow speeds. This is a lot to pay for a colour all-in-one, though - and despite its...

An innovative all-in-one device with a 3-second scanner
The primary issue with the Genesis S815 is the price. For £400 an A3 printer could be purchased, or a couple of A4 all-in-one printers. The innovations available on the Genesis S815 are impressive, but certainly not worth paying such a high premium for.

Lexmark's S815 Genesis is a scanner/printer/copier/fax that is being touted as the “Worlds first now-in-one printer” – we go hands on to see if it holds up to that claim
