Expert review by : Campbell Simpson (goodgearguide.com.au)
Powerful and stylish stereo receiver.
Powerful, clean amplification, great looks
No universal remote
If you need a powerful stereo audio receiver, then look no further than the HK 3490. Teamed up with some capable floor-standing speakers it’s able to reproduce high-quality audio with no flaws whatsoever.

The harman/kardon HK 3490 redefined the modern stereo receiver and set the benchmark for others to follow. Stereo lovers rejoice as I don't believe you can find a better sounding stereo receiver.
Benchmark audio performance ; Digital audio inputs ; Oodles of power reserves
Cheesy tone and balance control knobs ; Difficult to read frontpanel function buttons ; Remote not backlit

Great sound quality and power capability. Optical & Co-axial Digital Inputs make even the cheapest DVD player sound good. Small step control on the volume for low level listening
Very Large & Heavy (If thats a bad thing)
Consumer review (reevoo.com)
Looks good, sounds good, plenty of input options.
The remote...... Why, oh why, does the selection of fm progs 1, 2 & 3 either require '01' 02'or '03'else have to hold the button down for 5seconds? Infuriating! And why not a proper universal type? A little extra for such would not break the bank!
Consumer review (reevoo.com)
Design, sound quality
Balance, bass and sopran settings only from front panel
Consumer review (newegg.com)
For old-school stereo setups it would be hard to beat this unit at this price. Lots of power, beautiful looks, tons of inputs, and super-clean sound. One fellow gave it one egg since it did not have HDMI inputs--it's not that kind of product. If your...
