Browsing the prices for Onkyo's receivers can give you the familiar feeling of "too good to be true." Take the Onkyo TX-NR616. At its $410 street price it costs around $100 less than comparable models from other manufacturers, and it offers a...
The Onkyo TX-NR616 is feature-packed, with eight HDMI inputs, dual HDMI outputs, built-in networking, and extensive streaming audio support, including Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, and Internet radio. Wi-Fi functionality can be added with a tiny,...
Some users have complained about reliability problems. The eighth HDMI input cannot be accessed via direct button, only by navigating menus. And the TX-NR616 lacks built-in AirPlay.
The Onkyo TX-NR616 is a tremendous AV receiver value, with eight HDMI inputs and a very low street price, although Onkyo's step-down models may be an even better buy.

Onkyo's midrange AV receiver is packed with eight HDMI inputs and a superlow street price of $410. What's the catch?

Superb sound, I am running it with a Bose 5.1 speaker system. A fantastic range of output sound settings to mess about with. I tend to use the THX settings. Brill internet radio. Having Spotify built-in is an absolute bonus. Cannot fault it. Switched...

Spotify controlled with excellent android app which makes searching much infinitly easier using qwerty keyboard. Great bass from front speakers but with good clarity. THX. Two HDMI outs means I can switch between projector and tv. Compact size means it...
Setup options could be more intuitive. Wifi dongle extra. Wifi takes a while to connect after switch on. Android app stays in portrait mode only. A bit pricy.

Constantly drops HDMI signal

I purchased my Onkyo TXNR616 in late December 2012 and received it in in early January 2013. It arrived with the latest firmware updates and ran well until mid-August when it blew. The repair depot quickly replaced the parts (2 1/2 weeks) that had...
Great price; lots of features (probably best bang for your buck out there).
Slow HDMI connecting; and horendous reliablity and customer service.
