Flatbed scanners have never been particularly stylish things, but Canon's certainly pushing things in the right direction. This new CanoScan N1240U is not a great deal larger than the A4 documents that it's designed to scan ...
This is what scanners should be like. Stylish, easy to install and use and with a selection of useful, practical utilities supplied in the box. And, above all, with output quality to match its looks. It may be more expensive than many no-brand models...

For the mobile professional who puts convenience above image perfection, the CanoScan N1240U is a bargain.
Consumer review (epinions.com)
I've owned multiple scanners, and this is my second Canon scanner. I use it both at home and in my classroom. I've owned the 4400F for about a year now (and have it in my classroom for about the same time), so after a year I figure I can give a pretty ...
Ease of set-up, price, ease of use, great scans for photos & documents
Sub-par photo and OCR software included
Consumer review (epinions.com)
Received this scanner for Xmas. Worked very well for the first two weeks on photos and negatives but so-so on slides but the slides are 40 years old and have darken and lose of color over time. In the last two weeks started getting very grainy scans ...
For the cost it does very well.
Slow to scan and didn't care for the photo editing program that comes with scanner.
Consumer review (epinions.com)
When is the last time anyone in civilized society has used a scanner? I mean, paper pictures? Slides? Negatives? What in the world are those?? Anyone who was born before the year 2000 has photo albums, photo boxes and storage that requires no ...
Scans everything, beautiful resolution, easy to use
pricey investment
Consumer review (epinions.com)
If you think about buying this scanner to scan negatives or slides, forget about it. The maximum optical resolution is 300 dpi, which in the case of film scanning is an absolute crap. You can get pictures good enough to send to friends via e-mail, but ...
Extremely silent, easy to operate, perfect colours. Scanning photographs is quick and yields excellent results.
Cannot be used for film unless you really don't give a damn about details.
Consumer review (epinions.com)
easy to use and looks good.
soft ware won't work with windows xp
Consumer review (epinions.com)
fast, quiet, affordable, can scan color and B&W 35 mm negatives, nice TWAIN driver
the negative carriage holder is flimsy cardstock, most of the bundled software sucks
