Although you can buy flatbed scanners for 50 or even less, these are really only suitable for home use. If you want something a little more capable, and with the option of automatic document feed and a transparency scanner, then the Microtek ScanMaker...

Good scanner for the money

Film scanner is for 35mm ONLY. The lighted top is a narrow strip, and not the entire top of the scanner lid. Avoid this model if you want to scan medium format negs/slides

It seems as though one has to use the Cannon software that come bundled up with the scanner to get full use out of it

Scanner worked fine. Scanned in 35 mm negatives and slides @ 9600 dpi. Pictures came out very clear ; Regular scanning also worked as I hoped it would

I didn't get this here, but I noticed it on sale and figured I'd leave a little review ; I've been using this for - wow, 2 years ; Scanned around 10,000 photos so far. No problems with the hardware ; Works on XP and Windows 7 x64 ; Nice Looking

Software is kind of great, kind of poor: It has all the features you need and then some, but my main gripe is that it doesn't remember certain preferences, like save location. So every time you save a batch of scans, you have to hunt down the folder...
