The new Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II combines the best of propriety technologies from both Konica and Minolta.

Konica-Minolta has now released an upgraded version of the Dimage Scan Elite 5400 scanner that fixes two of the three issues that plagued its predecessor.
Better images captured automatically. Better dust-&-scratch removal.
No faster in real terms for top-quality image capture. Awful capture software.
What prevents the 5400 II from getting a Best Buy though is the software. The Dimage Scan software is horrible - it seems like it's trying to hinder what you're doing and annoyingly quits if you cancel a scan. For this reason, it's still better to pay...

Konica Minolta's Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II film scanner offers performance and specs that at one time were available only with considerably higher-priced professional film scanners, including a maximum optical resolution of 5,400dpi and a rated optical...
Excellent performance for a consumer model; first-rate, easy-to-use software; fast scanning at all resolutions; relatively high resolution.
Scans 35mm-format originals only; no batch-feeder option.
The Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II is a good choice for photographers who need to generate high-quality digital images from 35mm slides and negatives.

Konica Minolta Dimage 5400 While less popular in the pro and prosumer photo market than Nikon, Konica Minolta makes its fair share of imaging products. Case in point: the Dimage Scan Elite 5400 35mm film scanner. With a manufacturer-rated optical...
High resolution; solid scan quality.
Hard-to-use software interface needs work; slow scan-adjustment tools; lacks version of Digital ICE.
This is a great entry-level film scanner for advanced amateurs, but it's not quite ready for pros.

If you have tons of slides to scan, you're probably better off with a comparable model that supports a batch feeder, such as the Nikon Coolscan V; otherwise, the Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II is a fine choice.

Just as we were wrapping up our review of the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 what does Konica Minolta do? It releases the $599 DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II. It was back to the drawing board for us.C O N T E N T SIn the...
It's hard to beat a box that can quickly (25 seconds) scan 16-bit channels with a dynamic range of 4.8 (implying a higher Dmax, the maximum density it can record) at 5400-dpi resolution (a 42.2-Mp file) with multi-sampling to reduce random noise. We...

Looks, feels, and works like a fine piece of high-end digital photographic equipment

As film scanners go, the DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II is a full-featured device that delivers very good results for (relative to other scanners of this type that are far more costly) a good price. While spending around $600 may seem like a large...

Great resolution.
Consumer review (photographyreview.com)
Used it infrequently over a few years, scanned a few hundred negs/ slides. Nice results enlargable to 16x 20. Loader mechanism stopped working. Similar to others reporting. The extended warranty company gave me a couple of hundred $, pro-rated. Nice...
