Whether you want to keep an eye on your newborn baby, spy on your pets or help keep your home secure, the Nest Cam aims to be the answer. Launched after Nest's acquisition of Dropcam, Nest Cam is a 1080p home monitor that hooks deeply into Nest's smart...
Easy to setup and use ; Excellent image quality in day and night ; Reliable motion detection ; Integration with other Nest products
No ‘Auto Away’ without a thermostat ; Expensive subscription plans ; Needs decent internet connection
A slick, competent home monitoring system, albeit that won’t suit every individual’s needs.

Wi-Fi based home security camera options are everywhere at the moment, with the Google-owned Nest Cam not the first product with its foot in the door, so to speak. We've already seen Withings Home, Netatmo Welcome and Panasonic Nubo to name but a few....
Decent image quality, clear night vision, alert notifications arrive promptly, pivoting base means it’ll always be the right way up however you position it, improved Nest ecosystem integration, privacy mode when at home
Advanced motion sensing doesn't always work well enough, lacks user profiles for intelligent recognition, tied to monthly/annual fee cloud storage, no microSD for local storage, issues with outage (possibly network/overheating related?)
As home security cameras go it's a familiar tale: Nest Cam has got all the necessary notifications and back-up cloud storage options for a decent core experience, one with great quality Full HD video capture and Night Vision options.

Recording is restricted to subscribers, with no option for local storage
The Nest Cam is a well-made piece of hardware that delivers great video, even in the dark. However, the apps and website need a better interface for navigating the timeline and the iOS app needs more features, such as the ability to view your marked...

Startup Dropcam emerged on the connected webcam scene in 2009. The team churned out a handful of products over the years and Dropcam -- particularly with help from its $200 Dropcam Pro -- quickly rose up the ranks as the high-res DIY security cam...
Nest Cam's high-resolution video (1080p), magnetic base, pivoting stand and updated app make this DIY device an improvement over Dropcam Pro -- and many other DIY cameras.
Like Dropcam Pro, Nest Cam is still just a webcam at heart. While it does offer security features like opt-in motion and sound alerts, they aren't especially useful since you can only receive one notification every 30 minutes.
Given that Nest Cam and Dropcam Pro are pretty similar, it doesn't make a lot of sense for existing users to replace their Pro. But, budding DIYers searching for a high-res live streaming camera really can't beat Nest Cam.

Designed so that you can keep an eye on your home from afar, the Nest Cam alerts you to motion in your house and lets you talk to whoever's in earshot of the camera. It claims to have excellent night vision, so you can see what's going on even after...

Protect your home while you are away is something that many companies seem to be producing items for, some insurance companies even offer a reduction in your premium if the item selected meets their criteria. Here is a solution from Nest.
The Nest Cam is available from the link below for £159 with free delivery.

Thinner design ; More mounting options ; Night vision ; Built-in microphone ; 1080p full HD video recording ; Easy to set up and use
Requires subscription service ; Enhance feature doesn't really do anything ; No way to change the time zone from Pacific Time to Eastern Time
The Nest Cam is a powerful Internet-connected security camera that's super easy to setup and use.

Google's home-monitoring camera is a quality product, but you need to pay a subscription of £8/mth to make the most of it
If you don’t need the outdoor ruggedness or the positional flexibility of the battery-powered Arlo system, then the Nest Cam is an excellent option for home monitoring – and the fact that it works with other Nest products makes it all the more attractive.

The Nest Cam delivers crisp 1080p images to both the Nest app and the Nest website, making it easy to keep track of what's happening back at home. The updated hardware -- just a modest change from what used to be called the Dropcam -- now has a...
Expanded mounting options ; 1080p video ; Clearnight vision
Subscription-based; no option for saving locally ; Doesn't talk toother connected devicesin the home ; Scrubbing through video on the web is frustrating
If you're the owner of a Dropcam Pro, don't bother upgrading to the Nest Cam. Sure the camera is better, but it's only a slight improvement, and with access to Nest's more polished apps, the Dropcam Pro is still a solid camera. If you need to watch...

While probably not worth the upgrade for Dropcam Pro owners, Nest's first security camera is great option for first-time home monitors.
Sleek, sturdy construction ; Accurate motion detection ; Easy-to-use app
Nest Aware subscription required to access most security features ; Sends alerts only once every 30 minutes ; Weak sound detection
Nest Cam doesn’t improve much on the Dropcam Pro, but it doesn’t need to. It’s an excellent camera if your serious about home security.
