Nest Protect review: the smartest smoke and CO detector that you buy, is also the least annoying making the high price easier to stomach.
Exceptionally smart ; Easy to install ; Works brilliantly
Expensive
The Nest Protect is the smartest smoke detector you can buy – and the least annoying; but it's quite expensive

Multiple sensors including smoke and carbon monoxide ; Works with IFTTT ; Self-test capable ; Intelligent warning systems ; Integrates with other Nest products
Expensive - even more so as a multi-room system ; Occasional issues with WiFi connection
Nest Protect is certainly a powerful and flexible bit of kit. You might wonder why you need a smoke alarm with so many bells and whistles, but when you realise what it can do it soon becomes clear why it's worth it.

A review of the 2nd generation Nest Protect, a smart smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector.
If you live in a small enough home where just one smoke alarm will suffice, the Nest Protect is a great choice. It gets very expensive if you need multiple alarms (typically one per floor), but they do work well together and have some useful features,...

Nest Labs' Protect 2.0 software improves its smart smoke/CO detector, but the broken Wave gesture control feature is still conspicuously missing.

The Nest Protect 2nd Generation Smoke + Carbon Monoxide Alarm is a smart smoke alarm that's two products in one - offering protection against CO and smoke. It sounds as a traditional smoke alarm would do, while also sounding an alarm through your...

I was invited to a world-wide launch of several products from Nest early last summer. I asked to review this item and was told two weeks despite numerous reminders nothing happened until I assume a new employee arrived now this is protecting me.
The Nest Protect is available from the link below for £89 with free delivery.

A second connected smoke and carbon monoxide detector arrives from Nest, but is this literal lifesaver worth £89?

A pricey, but solid addition to your home. The Nest Protect takes something as boring as detecting smoke and makes it slightly exciting. Updated sensors reduce false alarms and are quicker to determine when there's a problem. The companion app, path...
Fewer false alarms ; Works with Nest's other products to tell you when something is amiss ; Multiple Protects can communicate with each other even when yourWiFi goes down ; Alerts you to problems when you're away from home ; Path light feature keeps...
Pricey compared to regular smoke detectors
Compared to the average smoke detector, the Nest Protect seems like an extravagance. It's more than double the price of a garden-variety device and although it's pretty, it's also something you'll rarely look at. But, when you're thinking about safety,...

Using your Nest Protect manually is a bummer. Here's how to get it working with the app again.
Expert review by : Megan Wollerton (cnet.com)
Now, a second-generation Protect has arrived and it's noticeably sleeker and smarter than its predecessor. With a slimmer profile, a new in-app "silence" button that allows you to turn off smoke and CO alarms remotely (the original Nest Protect doesn't...
The new Nest Protect has a more refined design than the original model, as well a handy in-app alarm silence feature to go along with its already useful connected features and integration with other Nest products and IFTTT.
The history section in the app is empty and it doesn't have enough new features to justify an upgrade from the original.
No other smoke and carbon monoxide detectors available today can match the second-gen Nest Protect in terms of looks and options, making it a great buy for anyone who appreciates design and connected features.
