Samsung Gear Fit

This is not the gear to get you fit... but you can drop it down an elevator shaft

Nice, bright display ; Heart rate integration for exercise activities ; Useful media controller

Poor battery life ; Data-logging issues with S Health ; Sleep tracking not very insightful ; Heart rate sensor is temperamental

Our main criticism of the screen initially was the lack of vertical screen orientation support to offer a more natural glance-at-your-watch view. Samsung has since addressed this with a software update, but it's puzzling to think this wasn't picked up...

Samsung Gear Fit review

The band with the bendy face

Beautiful AMOLED screen ; Good fitness/smartwatch balance

Limited fitness features ; Accuracy problems ; Extra charging component

Combining fitness band and smartwatch, the Gear Fit is beautifully designed. It just lacks a bit of substance right now.

The Samsung Gear Fit fitness tracker is an AMOLED screen-packing knockout

Screen ; HR tracking ; Sheer wearability

Samsung handset lock-in ; Pedometer accuracy ; Bulk ruins sleep tracking

Samsung Gear Fit review

Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone earlier this year and alongside it came a trio of smartwatches: the Samsung Gear Fit, as its name suggests, being the more sporty device than either the Gear 2 or more affordable Gear 2 Neo. The Gear...

Great design, beautiful display in right conditions, simple and fluid interface, built-in heart-rate monitor, interchangeable straps, good price, some smartwatch functions

Some Samsung device compatibility only, no auto brightness, battery life not amazing, fitness features limited, lack of apps, restricted to S Health (Samsung' s app) only, accuracy questionable at times, no altimeter

The Gear Fit offers a slim design, beautiful display and a fluid interface that's quick and easy to navigate. As its name suggests, it's a device focused on fitness, but here it's Samsung's way or the highway: the Gear Fit is only compatible with some...

Microsoft Band vs Samsung Gear Fit comparison

Microsoft has recently unveiled its first foray into the wearable technology market. Its called the Microsoft Band, and is a bit of a hybrid between a smartwatch and a fitness tracker, though it focuses on the latter.

For anyone with a Samsung smartphone, the Gear Fit is the best choice, but for everyone else we'd suggest looking elsewhere if you're hoping to buy a smartwatch or fitness tracker in the near future. It's a shame that the Microsoft Band's design is...

VIDEO: Samsung Gear Fit review - can a single device be both a good smart watch and activity tracker?

The Gear Fit is Samsung's first attempt at a combined smart watch and activity tracker. It works with a selection of Samsung's own smartphones and tablets, rather than Android in general. You can't use it with an iPhone.

Samsung Gear Fit review

The Gear Fit is Samsung's first attempt at a smart watch / activity tracker hybrid. It works with a selection of Samsung's own smartphones and tablets, rather than Android in general. You can't use it with an iPhone or iPad.

The Samsung Gear Fit is a lightweight and good looking, but has too many drawbacks, including accuracy issues and the fact that it's only compatible with Samsung Galaxy devices.

Samsung Gear Fit review

Samsung's new wearable is Fit by name, but not by nature

Unique curved screen ; Light weight ; Good battery life ; music control and notifications

Unresponsive screen ; Unreliable heart-rate tracking ; Awkward ergonomics

Looks great, but doesn’t play so well. There are, and there will be, too many other winner wearables to recommend this one

Samsung Gear Fit review: A half-step forward for the future of smart bands

The best of a fitness band and smartwatch, or a compromise? Samsung's ambitious Gear Fit isn't great enough to be the killer device yet, but it's trying.

The Gear Fit has a forward-looking design, many more extras than the average fitness band, and the ability to measure heart rate. Its curved AMOLED display looks fantastic, too.

The long display means text reads awkwardly on your wrist. The Fit only works with certain Samsung phones. Can’t load apps, so you’re stuck with the features included. And the price is high, so much so that you might consider a cheaper alternative or...

The Samsung Gear Fit is a great-looking wearable, but doesn't successfully reconcile its dual roles as activity tracker and smartwatch.
