Asus ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA

The ZenPad S 8.0 is Asus' latest flagship small tablet. It's designed to replicate the success of Asus original Nexus 7 and offer buyers top end specifications, while costing a piddly £199.99 (RRP).

Good display ; Solid design ; Affordable ; Nippy performance

Old Android version ; ZenUI ; Middling battery life

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 review: An affordable tablet not to be overlooked

There's a good chance you don't think of Asus when you think of tablets. Apple, Samsung? Sure. Asus makes boring stuff, right? However, Asus is secretly a bit of a tablet demon, having come up with the Nexus 7 (2013), still one of the best...

Super-sharp screen, excellent value, smart design for an affordable tablet, super-customisable user interface

Build not quite as hot as looks suggest, bursting at the seams with preinstalled guff

The Asus ZenPad S 8.0 is special because it crams a good, super-sharp screen into a very slim and handy body for a great price. Samsung's best at this level is the Samsung Tab 4 8.0, which isn't nearly as good by comparison.

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 review

A potent mix of high-res screen and speedy performance

Low price ; Superb high-res screen ; Stereo speakers

A lot of pre-installed apps ; Flimsy microSD socket cover ; Average camera

The Asus ZenPad S 8.0 packs great specs and well-rounded features into an attractive tablet that won't break the bank, and which competes strongly with more expensive competitors.

Crapware

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 review: The price is right for this sleek Android tablet

Starting at $200, the 8-inch ZenPad costs less than the iPad Mini 2, yet looks and performs just as well as the Apple tablet.

The Asus ZenPad S 8.0 is affordable, lightweight and thin, with a sleek design. Its brilliant screen is razor sharp and can be color-corrected with preloaded Asus software. Adjusting the screen's color balance, saturation and sharpness is a breeze...

The front-facing speakers are weak, and the cameras takes underwhelming photos.

The Asus ZenPad S 8.0 is one of the best Android tablets around, with a price that belies its impressive quality.

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 review

Beautiful styling and a high resolution screen makes the ZenPad S incredible value

The ZenPad S looks very impressive on paper, particularly when you consider it costs £170 for the 16GB model - significantly less than the iPad Mini or Samsung's Galaxy Tab S2, arguably the two premium tablets to beat right now. On closer inspection...

Asus Zenpad S 8.0

The Asus Zenpad S 8.0 is the latest tablet to hit the market, and it combines a handy size with some decent specs, a gorgeous screen and a price that doesn't break the bank. Can it compete with Apple's iPad mini though? We took a look at one to find out.

First up, at 8 inches the Asus Zenpad S 8.0 is an ideal size if you're frequently on the move, proving small and light enough to throw in your manbag and forget about until you need it. That 8-inch screen is a cracker, too, and the Quad HD screen looks...

It's not all good news though, and the USB-C port means you're unlikely to be able to use your phone charger to top it up. Still, you'll be sorted in a year or two when there are plenty of USB-C blowers hitting the market, and at least it's pretty...

If you want an Android slate, don't care about battery life and don't mind a few apps that can't be removed, there's plenty to like about the Asus Zenpad S 8.0, but if you can it's worth stretching extra and buying an iPad mini - it's the better tablet.

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 Review

In 2013, Asus manufactured the critically acclaimed Google Nexus 7. After a quiet period on the tablet front, Asus are back with a new range of ZenPads – and today we look at the ZenPad S 8.0. The 8.0 obviously refers to an 8-inch display, so this...

Sleek, modern design

The ZenPad S 8.0 is a real pleasure to use. It is fast, light and inexpensive. Look no further for an Android tablet costing around £200.

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 review

An ageing OS and relatively brief battery life don't stop this being a fine little 8in tablet, with an excellent 2K display, compact design and surprisingly high-performance hardware.

Very thin and light, great screen, nimble performance, flexible storage, cheap price

Few enterprise features, below average battery life, runs an older version of Android
