I did not buy an extended warranty

Hitachi will not honor their warranty.Some components did not even last a year!

Hitachi 57S500

 

I bought this unit after some in-depth research on the 'net. Overall we've been really happy with it, until it developed a bad habit of just shutting down after about 30 minutes of play (doesn't seem to matter what the input is: DVD, VHS, X-Box). ...

Great picture and sound, many useful features, not just padding.

It's developed a serious glitch of just shutting down after about 30 minutes of play.
