Sony Bravia XBR-55X900A and XBR-65X900A 4K TV hands-on review

4K TVs are undoubtedly the stars of the show at this year's CES with LG, Samsung and Sony all eager to wow both the media and buyers alike. Here's our hands-on review from a brief but close-up look at the XBR-55X900A.

Due to the limited amount of time we've spent with the X900A, we can't give a definitive verdict. We'll update this review when we've done a full test of the TV.

Sony XBR-55X900B

With a robust built-in sound system, the Sony XBR-65X900B is one of the best 4K HDTVs you can buy right now, but until 4K content becomes widely available, it's not worth the high cost.

Bright picture with accurate colors. Attractive design. Powerful sound system. Lots of features.

Expensive. Poor black levels for the price. 4K content selection isn't compelling yet.

While you can't count on Netflix and YouTube for 4K video unless you have a truly prodigious Internet connection, Sony itself offers a solution that's much more reliable. Unfortunately, it's expensive and extremely limited. The upcoming FMP-X10 is a...

Sony XBR-X900B review: Speaker-first 4K TV pumps powerful pictures, too

The speakers of Sony's XBR-X900B have come to kick butt and offer no apologies. They provide the sweetest sound we've heard from any TV, and combine with stellar picture quality to deliver the complete package. As long as you like the look of speakers,...

The Sony XBR-X900B series provides the best picture quality of any 4K TV we've tested so far, competing well against the better plasmas. It also pumped out best sound of any TV we've heard, bar none. Its prominent speakers and high-end finish makes a...

Those speakers: you'll either love 'em or hate 'em. Most people won't love 'em. The X900B is also more expensive than most 65-inch 4K TVs. The high resolution doesn't provide a major boost in image quality, especially with non-4K content. The 3D image...

If you can stand its speakers, Sony's XBR-X900B will reward you with the best combination of audio and video quality you've ever seen (or heard).

Sony XBR 55X900B

At the high end, where TVs like Sony's XBR-X900B compete, there's the added fact that many people have a dedicated home-theater system, with big separate speakers and amplification that render moot (mute?) any audio built into the TV.

Sony XBR-55X900B LCD/LED Ultra HDTV

2D Performance 3D Performance Features

The XBR-55X900B is the smallest set in Sony’s X900B series, which also includes the 65-inch XBR-65X900B ($5,000) and the 79-inch XBR-79X900B ($9,000). Fifty-five inches is a relatively small size for achieving the maximum benefits of 4K resolution. But...

Sony XBR-55X900B Review – 55-inch 4K Ultra LED HDTV

Sony has designed this 4K UHD TV using the innovative Wedge Design. Here, the display screen is thin at the top and gradually thickens towards the bottom creating enough depth for the side-mounted speaker system. This makes a perfect shape to save...

Sony XBR-55X900A Ultra HD LCD TV Reviewed

Adrienne Maxwell tackles her first Ultra HD television review with one of the first UHD television sets. How does it look? Is there a noticeable improvement? Is it worth taking the plunge? Read on to find out!

It's 4,000 words later, and I'm still having a hard time reaching a final verdict on the XBR-55X900A. On the one hand, the TV offers excellent all-around performance, producing a very attractive image in both dark and bright room settings. It doesn't...

Sony XBR-55X900B 4K 120Hz LED TV

The standout features of the 55X900B are 1) the X-tended Dynamic Range feature which allows for more active zone control of the LED backlighting and 2) the Side Mounted speakers eliminate the need for a surround sound system. The side mounted speaks...

Side angle viewing is a clear weakness in this display. That is nothing new for those familiar with LED TVs, but it is something that can be hard to swallow in a purchase as large as this one. The large screen sizes and proper placement of the TV help...

Review: Sony XBR-55X900C 55

I was one of the first customers to take delivery of this new 55" set from B&H. The image quality and color rendering is spot on! It truly is a beautiful picture and I really like the up-scaling.
