Canon launched the EOS M5 just a few days before Photokina kicked off, in a clear sign that the company is starting to take its mirrorless proposition seriously.

Canon gets serious with mirrorless
Polished handling ; Excellent touchscreen control ; Plenty of detail in images ; Connectivity
No 4K video capture ; Limited lens range ; Pricey compared to rivals
The EOS M5 is Canon's best mirrorless camera yet, and is certainly a very capable piece of kit. The only things really holding it back are the hefty price difference compared to rivals, and a limited lens range.

It's fair to say we've been highly critical of Canon 's compact system camera EOS M line. For a simple reason, though: the Japanese company's mirrorless cameras simply haven't been able to stand up to the competition. And with the current line-up -...
Small size, big step forward for EOS M series, fast autofocus setup (finally), decent viewfinder and touchscreen combination, access to lots of lenses (via adapter)
Battery depletion issues, autofocus setup can't compete with the best mirrorless cameras out there, high ISO sensitivity shows off image noise, no 4K video, expensive compared to competition
The Canon EOS M5 is the mirrorless camera the company should have launched years ago. It's taken far too long for the Japanese maker to catch up with the competition. And even now, the M5 couldn't be called the best thing going.

Sitting just above the entry-level M10, the Canon EOS M5 is the latest compact system camera (CSC) from Canon. At first glance, the M5 takes very good photos, records Full-HD video and keeps the shot stable with excellent image stabilisation. But has...

If you can look past the plastic build quality, and plastic construction of the lenses available for the camera, then you have a neat and compact system. However, there is a premium price on this camera, which makes the alternatives feel like better...

The EOS M5 finally brings DSLR-level performance to Canon's mirrorless series.

It's something of a running joke in the photography world that Canon and Nikon, the two biggest camera companies in the world, have missed the boat on the interchangeable lens mirrorless camera...
Image quality ; Ease of use ; Small and light
Build quality ; Sluggish performance ; Meager lens lineup

The Canon EOS M5 is the best mirrorless camera that Canon has made to date, but it lacks some features you can get elsewhere at this price point.
