Is Nikon's latest retro DSLR a great blast from the past or best forgotten?
Superb sensor, Great noise control, Non-AI lens compatibility, Solid specification, Too big yet too light
Very pricey, Finish not quite as premium as it should be, No video, Disapointing maximum shutter speed, Awkward position of the exposure compensation dial

The Nikon Df is the brand's new DSLR, taking style cues from its old 35mm film models
Retro design ; Fantastic picture quality ; Weatherproof
No video ; No Wi-Fi or GPS ; Pricey

Past and present combine for photographic pleasure and superb images
Full-frame sensor ; Small body ; Traditional controls ; Weatherproof
'Only' 16MP ; No video recording ; Expensive
It may not be the camera for everyone, but many enthusiasts will love the Df's retro styling and go-anywhere capability. Plus the images are superb. Its current list price, however, seems very high.

Looking back to move forward - that's what the Nikon Df is all about. This retro style DSLR marries the classic Nikon SLR style of years gone by with much of the Japanese company's modern tech. It's the only Nikon DSLR capable of supporting current...
Great image quality (of D4 standards), fast autofocus system works a treat, great design concept, manual control dials have their benefits, non-AI lens compatibility
Expensive, too big in our view, finish not as premium as it should be, no body-only option, front dial position can be awkward, always-on dial locks, less specified than lesser Nikon full-frame models
The Nikon Df could be called over-ambitious. With the likes of Fujifilm pulling off the retro style with stronger footing in functionality and Sony putting out the affordable Alpha A7 there are considerable alternative retro and full-frame options on...

We knew Nikon had something up its sleeve. Throughout October there had been glimpses in teaser videos showing a Nikon product described as being all about

The full-frame Nikon Df looks and feels like an old-school film SLR... but costs as much as a pro DSLR. Is this retro-cam worth the cash, or is it a nostalgic flop?
Solid retro style and build ; The best image quality around ; Awesome manual control
Sluggish focus in low light ; Some fiddly ergonomics ; No video capture
A sumptuous retro SLR that just needs focusing improvements to justify the price

The Nikon Df is a full-frame camera designed along the lines of Nikon's classic film SLRs, with numerous controls dials that handle photographic functions. But inside this 'retro' magnesium-alloy body sits a 16.2 MP full-frame CMOS sensor, a Nikon...

With a deliberately retro body, traditional controls and a 16.2 megapixel full-frame sensor, the Nikon Df might just be the ultimate DSLR for lovers of classic Nikons. Enthusiasts will love its fast performance, and it looks and feels like a serious...

Nikon's aim is to try to recapture the essence of shooting on a vintage film SLR. So does the Df achieve this? Well, it is certainly a valiant effort, but the two mediums are very different and merely changing a few of the settings to dedicated control...

Nikon's Df brings retro goodness to its full frame range, and with it a whole lot of opinions.
Great sensor and image quality, Retro looks
Expensive, No video, Too big for a retro camera, Dials and controls need some more attention
